January signals the arrival of @Butane ’s seventh release on his Extrasketch imprint, with a fresh three track offering entitled ‘Unchained’ opening 2019 with authority.

When describing Andrew Rasse, aka Butane, one may find it difficult to complete a paragraph without including the words ‘consistent’ and ‘quality’. Considering that these two descriptors can be applied across not only his extremely proficient studio output, but also his ability within the booth as a technical and prolific DJ, and an extremely successful A&R that has been in the drivers seat of some of the world's most respected labels for over a decade, and it’s easy to see why Rasse’s praises are regularly sung by high profile artists such as Seth Troxler, Jamie Jones and Adam Beyer. Now firmly into its second year of operation, Rasse unveils another quality three track offering on his burgeoning self-described ‘vanity’ imprint Extrasketch as he opens up 2019 in fine fashion.

Rasse opens the package strongly with ‘Hubris’, a heavy medley of crisp drum loops, hypnotic, hooky synths, and tripped-out vocal murmurs that combine skillfully to guarantee the production will find only the hottest dancefloors. Next, ‘Chained’ brings a slightly brighter aesthetic, employing a subtle vocal hook amongst a grinding, cyclical, machine-like groove. Organic drum shots fill in the negative spaces, and the track retains a firm foundation amidst a winding, woozy bassline. Lastly, ‘Nemesis’ sees Rasse switch things up, opting for a more stripped-down vibe. Crisp percussion licks layered over an infectious, brooding bassline and resonant stabs reveal yet another trademark B-side oozing with quality. This April, house and techno mainstay Loco Dice is stepping out with En Couleur, a brand new label reserved exclusively for his own music.

En Couleur, means "in colour" in French, and has been chosen because of the language's association with love, but also, says Loco Dice, because "colour stands for the diversity of cultures I absorb and artists I meet on my life journey. Lots of things I do in my life appear in colour. The music I produce is like my movie in technicolor, and the music I play is sorted by colour in my crates and folders."

En Couleur is about music that will not be controlled by traditional plans and strategies. It is for music that will be shared as and when it is ready, and will become a platform for all sorts of collaborations with friends and different artists. Of course, the Dusseldorf man behind it has already accomplished so much, from critically acclaimed albums and EPs on his Desolat label to sell out world tours, major label releases and plenty of key residencies. He has long been synonymous with a big, hard hitting house and techno sound that is well informed by his life-long love of hip hop, and with this new label proves he is as keen as ever to evolve, adapt, and explore new musical forms.

En Couleur launches with a superb solo EP from Dice himself, then keeps up a busy rate of release with four further EPs planned before the end of the year. The first offering opens with 'Sweet Nectar Blossom', a fresh track with jazzy chords and well swung bass that gets you in the groove. Muffled vocal sounds and clipped keys all bring a late night feeling of romance and playfulness. 'Kanak Funk' has crisp Chicago drums run through with woozy pads and thoughtful keys. It's a deep, hugely atmospheric track that is as much for the headband heart as the heel. Last of all, 'Believe In Me' is another lush house track with spiritual leads that drift off to the heavens and smooth drums and bass that brim with real warmth and soul.
