As a trans girl before my transition, I was perceived as a boy and was exposed to the behaviour of cis male heterosexual groups. I was asked uncomfortable sexual questions and expected to participate in group conversations that were misogynistic and objectifying towards Women. I observed this behaviour both in misogynistic male groups and in groups made up entirely of "nice guys".

The phenomenon, where men express sexual and aggressive thoughts about women, especially in male-only groups, can be attributed to various psychological and sociocultural factors. One key concept is "hostile masculinity," where some men possess a personality trait that combines a hostile and mistrustful view of women with a desire for power over them. This trait has been linked to sexual aggression and a propensity to misinterpret women's communications, possibly seeing friendliness as seductive or perceiving assertiveness as hostility, leading to aggressive responses (Malamuth & Brown, 1994).

In addition, peer pressure and social norms significantly influence men's sexual and aggressive behaviour towards women. However, individual differences, including resistance to conforming to harmful norms and the ability to intervene as a bystander, show that not every man conforms to these behaviours and that there is a spectrum of responses ranging from conformity to active resistance.
