After over a year of diverse, exciting, and utterly danceable releases, Longstocking’s Feral One Records has proven that the Feral Ones are everywhere. Now for the label’s latest release, three Feral Ones have arisen in a city just south of the label’s home in Seattle: Portland, Oregon.

The three artists in question are: 

Loopacabra, a staple of Portland’s local house community who has opened for prominent headliners like Matroda, Nala, and TOKiMONSTA, among many others, in addition to performing at Burning Man.

[E]mpress, a PDX rapper with the versatility to spit her fierce rhymes over any sound or style. 

Mienne, another stalwart of Portland’s house scene who has shared the stage with VNSSA and Mary Droppinz, and shared the studio with Loopacabra on several occasions.

Together, Loopacabra and [E]mpress produced a track entitled “High Freq Vibe,” which captures the shared old-school energy of rap and dance music. Both of these genres came from an explosion of repressed expression, launching confidence and personality into the air in sonic form.

This new single is an extension of that legacy as Loopacabra’s raucous synth work matches [E]mpress’s precise yet rapid-fire orations. This is the kind of track that is perfect for an outdoor celebration where high vibrations flow without impediment. Then Mienne’s remix takes those same vibrations and refines them into something dark and fluid. Same energy, but this time it’s flowing in the club.

Though it's my tenth year playing for @tectonic at Burning Man, SOAK, and SHIFT, the feeling of a swarm of hundreds of dusty, smiling humans' trusting me to wiggle their butts whichever direction I lead is fresh, exciting, and overwhelming every time. 

It is a privilege to take risks, journey through dynamic turns, play weird lyrics and weird rhythms, bend genres... things that can't happen without your trust. These are wiggles we get to share because we trust each other. This is joy we get to experience together because we support each other.

After days of this floating through my head non-stop, I knew I was done when I put this last iteration on the speakers and found myself dancing. I haven't felt this excited to work on production in so long, and a lot of that has to do with the lyrical content of the piece - so shout out to Emmy Meli for the empowering vocals.

Mienne has been involved in dance culture for more than two decades. She has always been a performance artist; initially as a belly dancer, her natural sense of movement and rhythm translated gracefully into her journey as a DJ. Her Libran love of balance (and variety!) makes her uniquely adept at setting a sonic scene that elicits journeys across desert tundra, into a dark foggy club, through the expansiveness of space, and SPLAT onto a jiggling subwoofer. Whether it’s bass house, 140, or west coast bass, you can expect to see smiling faces and feel your booty wiggle.
