Qasidah

"Qad Kafani `Ilmu Rabbi" (My Lord's Knowledge Suffices Me) is a powerful statement of reliance and trust on Allah, authored by Imam Abdullah b. Alawi al-Haddad (1634 CE [1044 Hijri] - 1720 CE [1132 Hijri]), the great Islamic scholar and spiritual guide from Hadhramawt, Yemen. Imam al-Haddad was a distinguished poet, and this particular qasida (devotional song) is one of his most-recited poems. A brief bio of the Imam may be found here:http://www.alhaddad.org/blog/?p=382. My Lord’s knowledge has sufficed me 
 from asking or choosing 
For my du’a and my agonising supplication 
 is a witness to my poverty. 
For this secret (reason) I make supplication  
in times of ease and times of difficulty 
I am a slave whose pride  
is in his poverty and obligation

O my Lord and my King 
 You know my state 
And what has settled in my heart  
of agonies and preoccupations 
Save me with a gentleness  
from You, O Lord of Lords 
Oh save me, Most Generous  
before I run out of patience (with myself) 
---------- 
O One who is swift in sending aid 
 I ask for aid that will arrive to me swiftly 
It will defeat all difficulty  
and it will bring all that I hope for 
O Near One Who answers  
and All-Knowing and All-Hearing 
I have attained realisation through my incapacity,  
my submission and my brokenness 
---------- 
I am still standing by the door, so please my Lord 
 have mercy on my standing 
And in the valley of generosity, I am in i’tikaf (solitary retreat)   
So, Allah, make my retreat here permanent 
And I’m abiding by good opinion (of You) 
 For it is my friend and ally 
And it is the one that sits by me and keeps me company  
All day and night

There is a need in my soul, O Allah  
so please fulfill it, O Best of Fulfillers 
And comfort my secret and my heart 
 from its burning and its shrapnel 
In pleasure and in happiness  and 
as long as You are pleased with me 
For joy and expansion is my state  
and my motto and my cover

After coming out of spiritual retreat, Abd al-Rahman Shaghouri (the famous Syrian scholar of the 20th century), composed this poem describing his experience and spiritual state. This is sung by Shaykh Nuh Ha Meem Keller at Harvard in the Moroccan way.

ENGLISH:
There is no deity but Allah!
The curtains of 'between' have been lifted
And the lights of Oneness have appeared;
Disclosed without any 'where', 
So see them, O Sufis! 
There is no deity but Allah!

I am the mirror of my Beloved. 
In His love, O my spirit, grow well;
From other than Him, O self, be absent,
And cast aside all things vile. 
There is no diety but Allah!

Since He has been manifest in these places of vision.
Have I been bowing and prostrate;
Thinking Him and praising. 
For He has encompassed me in identity.
There is no deity but Allah!

O the wonderfulness of my encounter
O my subsistence in my annihilation
O the light of my empyrean
O my life forever and ever.
There is no deity but Allah!

The pourer has drawn near to us
And presented us the goblet;
We have sipped and drunk our fill,
From the cups of al-Hashimi
There is no deity but Allah!

My friend, seize the chance to live,
How many a corpse that came to them was revived;
Never shall anyone be disappointed, never,
Who comes with a true intention.
There is no deity but Allah!

Clear your heart for the Divine manifestation,
Open your eye from true joy;
Other than the Divine, my friend, abandon,
And be annihilated in the exalted Entity.
There is no deity but Allah!

Drink heartily from the goblet openly,
See no disgrace in drinking;
Go mad with love, and throw off all shame
In the most sacred meanings.
There is no deity but Allah!

Speed with might and main to the stations,
Following the way of the earliest ones;
Heed not the words of him who forbids your love,
Listening is but tribulation.
There is no deity but Allah!

It is the all in all in origin,
Those who would prevent love have no action;
The forbidding of love is naught but,
Sent from the Bestower of Gifts.
There is no deity but Allah!

Then shower blessings, O You of Majesty, 
Upon the Door of Connectedness;
Taha [the Prophet Muhammad], with Companions and folk,
Long as the camelteer may chant to spur his mount.
There is no deity but Allah!

واذكر بجد وصدق * بين يدي عبيد الله

فوحدة الفعل تبدو * في أول الذكر لله
ووحدة الوصف له * تاتي من الحب في الله
ووحدة الذات له * تورث البقا بالله
فهنئا لمن مشى * في طريق الذكر لله
معتقدا شيخا حيا * يكون عارفا بالله
ولازم الحب له * وباع نفسه لله
وقام في الليل يتلو * كلامه شوقا لله
فنال ما يطلبه * من قوة العلم بالله
