With thanks to Elfi Bohl who allowed us to use the sample of her song 'Barakoo', from the WEC International CD 'Many Voices, One Song'.  The instrument is a West African Kora, and the loop inspired the writing of the song in the first place.

Praise The Lord

This song was written by Sunil Chandy, and recorded by the engageband of Sara and Sam Hargreaves, Sunil and Richard Morgan (who also arranged the strings and Duduk parts).  Nathan Kennedy engineered the recording, and the mix was a bit of a team effort.

It is a paraphrase of Psalm 88, attempting to capture some of the honest despair inherent in perhaps the darkest of all the Psalms, and crying out to God with the ancient prayer 'Kyrie eleison' (Lord, have mercy).  However, the end moves towards some sort of hope, as the singer reaches beyond the Old Testament towards Jesus, the true source of mercy.
