シンガー、コンポーザー、さらにはマルチ・インストゥルメンタリストとして活躍するNY在住のアーティスト・Gabriel Garzón-Montano（ガブリエル・ガルソン・モンターノ）。メイヤー・ホーソーンやレニー・クラヴィッツ、ジャイルス・ピーターソンらが「注目の才能」として評価する彼はまさに次代を担う存在だ。彼が注目を集めるきっかけとなったのはPurchase College Conservatory of Musicを卒業後、MadonnaやMick Jaggerを手がけたことでも知られる伝説的プロデューサー・Henry Hirschとの出会いを契機にリリースしたデビュー作『Bishouné: Alma del Huila』。作曲はもちろんのこと、あらゆる楽器からブレス、ハンドクラップに至るまでを全て彼が担当したこの作品は、完璧主義の彼にとっては満足のいくものではなかったと語るものの大いに話題を集め、上述のメイヤー・ホーソーンやレニー・クラヴィッツらから高い評価を受けた。そしてこの作品に収録された”６８”がドレイクが2015年にリリースした『If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late』に収録されていた”Jungle”でサンプリングされたことを受け一躍時の人として注目を集めるに至った。

そんな注目を集める本作『Bishouné: Alma del Huila』が日本で改めてリリースされるにあたり、TOWER RECORDSが選出するレコメンタイトル”タワレコメン”に選出されるなど早くも日本でも期待の声があがっている。ネオソウル、ファンク、ポップスなどを背景にあらゆるものを事もなげに吸収し融合させるセンスで紡がれた音楽は一度はまると抜け出せない。そんなクセになる魅力を持った次代のシーンを牽引する才能の活躍に期待だ。
