@lukabeatovic is a producer based in Novi Sad, Serbia. To reduce the scope of his work to ambient alone might disregard the multifarity of his approach, encompassing field recordings, sound collage, soundtracking and shifts into noise and minimalist electronica. The style is always capacious and referential - pulling from Celtic folk-music, city pop, natural sounds, e.g., - without ever decentring the source, allowing space to form around the reappropriated material such that it is always the core of that moment in the music and not subordinate to the arc of the music-maker. This is an identity built over a series of short-form and full-length projects self-released between 2020-2025 and is ever-present in his Realist mix, luxuriating in the absence of apparent splendor, the simple sufficience of the sound of the sound of things.

Luka’s mix contains previously unreleased material, plus a pair of original reworks. Adding some background to these pieces, Luka mentioned the centrality of “field recordings I got over the month I was recording the mix as well as previously recorded ones. A stone I found that’s hollow and “chalk-like” being dragged over a concrete surface is the basis for the Caislean Õir rework. A pillow being rustled is the basis for the Hawthorn one. For Yewende, the bird sounds are actually my friends hooting on a hilltop near my city and the man speaking before them is a Serbian Farm YouTube guy. Pania Tower Marshes was made for a DnD session and the cranes were recorded at a marsh nearby.” There is always the same sense of ease - not easiness, but of a music where the point is not that to which the sound contributes but the orbital importance innate to every individual sound. Few producers would abdicate their authorship in an alike way. And this here is the signature of authorship.

co-founder of hyperglitch pioneers @glitch-dot-cool | @soup_lab is a producer based in Detroit. soup’s work has been coterminous with the development of hyperglitch, over a pair of EPs, live sets, and a number of singles and remixes, continually delineating and redrawing the possibilities of the genre. Across upwards of a decade of production, soup’s music has been persistently cutting-edge and persistent in its articulation of a sublimity readily available when computational tools become simultaneous with the shattered mouthing of experience.

One of the most beautiful things about soup’s Realist mix is its demarcation of hyperglitch as a glisteringly intertextual music. With glitch as a basis - and its tenets of emotive centrality and crystallisation via the systemic glitch - flickerings of all else become tinged with poetic importance. Touches of dubstep, future garage, caged tones reminiscent of French house. When glitch occurs it intimates alterity, some secretive crackling in perceived perfectibility. The fissure shoulders a humanity when it enters into cooperation with expression. The expression does not enter our world only as disruption, but a reformulation of the significance of what is broken apart and what is after broken. So when these other musics flicker, they do so not with nostalgia nor a parodic wink, but as composites of an overarching articulation of selfhood within the disrupt.

Many of these writings seem weekly to refer to potentialities, half-stoppered yet unstoppered voices - dubieties of hauntology and its unimaginative ahistoricity. soup’s mix is immediate. It does not disguise its urgency. Where it reappropriates, it colours with an exigency of feeling. It is heavenly straightaway and that itself is an adjuration to the radicality of beauty in the breakability of the at-hand.

Realist Alive Radio 022: soup

INSIDES by @mxrpha turns up in the middle of this year with no prior work attributable to the name. It’s a spellbindingly beautiful record, like someone engorged all the ambient and bass music of the Soundcloud wilds, infused it with this melancholy worldliness, and dreamt up that it be played from a soundsystem in a chancel. It’s a record equally ghostly and daring. Taking apart rolling UK bass tunes, IDM and the trancier moments of future garage’s overspill, then rebuilding it into a record that bows for no listener, yet evoking all the unsayable intimations of their inner life. It’s a record of squawks and swells and small discordances, and out of these it pens the biography of no one person, but people nonetheless.

So two motifs, earthliness and religious magnitude, seem traceable in mxrpha’s Realist mix. It’s filled with these hyperpop canticles, folk songs from the virtual - bass music so guttural it’s nearest kin is the united larynx of a choir, laden with the candlelit mystery of a sound that loses its self and accedes to the possession of the world. Simultaneously there’s these samples of the natural world, individual or triplet voices of a citizenry... DOOM turns up in an act of recontextualisation that lays in your gut exactly what it was like to first hear Figaro, and below drums and the squalls of distorted horns, all the turbulence of adolescence vaporises into the ecstatic engulfing of being now. So both mxrpha’s music and mix could be called an expert music of disappearance. It’s electronic music so attuned to this capacity of music to induce alienation from the self that its ethereality is the ethereality of the sparrow flying through the clerestory, a deity in a tapering flame, music that belongs to no body but a space in ownerless air where go passions and potentialities.

Nathan L. is a producer currently based in Berlin. They arrive to Realist off the back of the [LV.SNGZ] EP, one of 2025’s most head-turning releases, the culmination of many years’ work in a computational avant-garde. As much a culmination as the stimulation of a new beginning, NhL’s recent work exemplifies a development in the corpus of hyperglitch, matching technical exploration of the soundscapes of computational noise with investigation into the lives ravelled, contorted and performed in online and digital spaces, as well as further play with the audial potentialities of the computer and web as instrument. There is yet the extreme subversiveness of a music built from codified stammers and algorithmic rupture, but it gains now an intertextuality, a biographical element even, where the destruction of glitch is a means of articulating the ecstatic wasteland of the digital… where bodies are reshaped in a vortex of labyrinthine élan, of fan-communities and livelihoods sycophantic, cultural exchange and intertextuality where personhood is composed of the indefinite and abraded incorporeity chartered by this chaotic noise.

NhL’s Realist mix is a furthering of this world. Voices range from those of the obsequious YouTuber, petitioning our allegiance, to samplings of Japanese media, to voices reduced not to linguistic legibility but a choral thrum, incandescent in their heavenly incoherence, all posed alongside the shattering percussion of glitch. No longer an illustration of solely the instrumental possibilities of hyperglitch, this is an evincement of hyperglitch as a language for the articulation of new bodies, souls and skeletons refound and visible only in a surplusage of bits and data, entities like a cascade of perforated light, bemired in a canon of infinite disappearance. It is an articulation made possible by NhL’s combination of supreme creativity and mischievous bravery. It is an articulation only explicable when encountered. And this encountering an audacious, perplexing and the embodiment of an exigent, essential music.
