On 11th of April one of the most iconic clubs in belgium burned to the ground. I used to go clubbing in Lier during the 90's and went there a month ago with my sister where we were brought back to sounds from the Illusion (another great club which was situated in Lier as well. 
I got to be honest, when i read that La Rocca was burning i was devastated. I wanted to go to the ultimate closing of this club on easter Weekend. I made this mix just by throwing together some records which made me feel like being back to the 90's in Lier.

My mix didn't get the love from Mixmag contest, no, but that's okay, I've made peace with that! They didn't pick it up, didn't crown it the winner, but hey - maybe they were having a bad day, right? Or maybe they were just too stunned by the epic Junkie XL break to function! Still, it's hard to be too upset when I'm bopping my head to this hot beat I've spun.

This little symphony of sound might not have brought home the gold, but in my heart (and in my ears!), it's top of the charts. So, here it is, still pumping, still vibrant, and too darn good to toss into the abyss of forgotten tracks. I mean, come on, have you heard that break? It’s like finding a surprise pizza slice at the bottom of the box! So yeah, hold on to your headphones folks, this one's a keeper!

After upgrading my setup with two Technics 1210 Mk7s because obviously my life wasn’t already expensive enough. Playing on the DJM 750 MkII started to feel... how do I put this... like DJing on a glorified office printer. Functional, sure, but about as exciting as warm tap water.

And honestly? I missed my Xone 92. That chunky, mysterious British mixer with knobs that felt like they were made from vintage submarine parts. It was muscle memory, baby. I could EQ blindfolded and still crush a set (or at least think I did).

So I did the only responsible thing a financially reckless gear goblin can do: I bought the Xone 96 -> my dream mixer, aka the sonic spaceship with knobs for days. And lo and behold, every little thing I used to side-eye on the 92? Magically fixed. It’s like Allen & Heath read my dream journal and actually cared.

Anyway, this mix is the very first one I played on the new setup. So if it sounds extra buttery, it’s not talent... it’s thousands of dollars in hardware compensating for my creative insecurities.
