Special Episode – Interview with Joe C, Joel S, and Johnny B of Total Mass Retain – January 2023

In this special episode we catch up with Joe Cass, Joel Simches, and Johnny Bruhns of the Yes tribute band Total Mass Retain.  It’s been about a year since we’ve chatted together and it was great to talk about the wonderful music of Yes.  It was the first time for us at the Palaver to meet guitarist Johnny Bruhns and we were thrilled to hear his perspective of the music that we all enjoy so much.  Joe and Joel, as usual, bring their unbridled enthusiasm to the conversation.  As one might expect, we cover a broad range of topics from setlists to future plans.  As this is published, we are gearing up to see TMR at the City Winery in Philadelphia for what promises to be a “kick ass” show.

Special Episode - Interview With Joe C, Joel S, And Johnny B Of Total Mass Retain - January 2023

Words cannot describe the fun contained in this Special Concert Series edition of the Palaver.  This conversation took place immediately after TMR’s show at the Kennett Flash.  Not only were Joe, Paul and Ken all together (always a treat) they are joined by Joey, Mark and Joel of Total Mass Retain and Tom and Ann from ProgStock ALL at Paul’s kitchen table.  A lively conversation took place.  Ken’s excellent sound engineering captures levels of detail not normally available on the Palaver including the slightly noisy introduction of a pack of gummy bears to the festivities in the middle.  This Palaver may be a bit different but we hope this recording captures the fun and joy of a group of friends having a great time in each other’s company.  Our deepest thanks to our friends who joined us on this one.

SCS20 - Total Mass Retain, Kennett Square PA

An anti-whaling song written by Jeff Kalmar. Half was recorded live at the SHOWPLACE in DOVER NJ, but the tape ran out. 2nd part from Kimberly's and joined. there is a slight tempo difference, and the room sizes were much different. Showplace was huge, room mics for both halves of the recording. The band members arranged this, and contributed ideas and linked them all.
