Lebanese imprint Feedasoul Records returns this August with ‘Moody Type Love Pt.II’ by Papa Soul, accompanied by remixes from Soul Groove (UK) and DJ Merci.
Byblos, Lebanon’s Papa Soul is co-founder of the Feedasoul Records label and over the past few years has unveiled a series of material showcasing his twist on contemporary house sounds. Here he returns to the label for the second instalment of his ‘Moody Type Love’ EP.
The original mix of ‘Moody Type Love Pt. II’ leads the release and showcases Papa Soul’s signature style via groove-laden, sample heavy drums, soul-infused vocals and warm, hypnotic keys.
DJ Merci’s take on ‘Moody Type Love Pt. II’ follows next, embracing a garage swing rhythmically while stirring in bright electric piano keys and snaking bass grooves. Soul Groove (UK) then rounds thing out with his interpretation, embracing a more jazztinged, soulful aesthetic via organic percussion and intricate brass lines atop elements of the original’s hazy soulful vibe.

Chicago-based Harold wrote his first releases in the early 90’s with artists like Ron Trent, Terry Hunter, Maurice Joshua and Ron Carroll with songs such as “Ritual Of Love” and Barbara Tucker’s “I Get Lifted”. Throughout the late 90’s he was well known for his songs under his ‘Blak Beat Niks’ alias with production partner K. Fingers on PAN Records, Large Music and his own label Melodious Fonk with “The Sun Will Shine”. The 2000’s saw him move on to further projects with the likes of Slip N Slide, Mark Knight, Peppermint Jam, Glenn Underground, Makin’ Moves and Sean McCabe.

Moving into the next chapter, “Peripheral Vision” is a genre-spanning journey, drawing influences from a multitude of angles and providing a true reflection of Harold’s passion for song writing and spoken word, with a host of guest producers and vocalists.
 
“Deep Into My Sleep” opens the release and brings Cardiff’s ‘Black Sonix’ to the party and Harold’s sublime vocals provide the narrative to the afro tinged beats. It’s got soulful undertones a plenty with warm rushes of BVs and percussive rhythms to keep feet dancing way into the late night hour. 
 
“Put Your Hands Together” gets serious on the dancefloor with driving beats and an explosion of synth flicks, hits and stabs. It’s Sean’s subtle nod to the Trax era, suggested by Harold, and set to become a firm fave with those that like their groove a little more analogue.
 
Effortlessly moving through the soulful gears, Harold and Sean McCabe’s “Into You” brings guest vocalist Dawn Williams onboard for a lazy, hypnotic and sumptuous slice of house. Set amongst an uplifting backdrop of smooth chords and lushed out riffs, the vocalists playfully bounce off each other asking questions and telling answers whilst keeping all elements sat firmly in the sweet spot.
 
Another Cardiff-based producer ‘DJ Fill’ shifts up the groove with “Pause”. Still oozing the soul but with a more Hip Hop-meet-Broken Beat vibe and peppered with smooth Rhodes, niggly electronic arps and a bassline that ain’t letting you go. Harold and Syl Messi go head to head with the lyrics, bringing together a smooth and edgy vocal balance for something truly special and unique.
 
Proving that all good things must come to an end, the title track “Peripheral Vision” closes things out featuring guest raps and production from Chicago’s own ‘Nickel Slick’ on their mission to rebuild and re-educate through the power of lyrics. It’s a heartfelt track with a strong and relevant message for today’s testing times.

All trax come in the old school deep house vibe.
I'll Be There was originally released on the Ultimate Result EP on Italian cult label UMM back in 1993 and has been a fave deep house tune of 4lux head honcho Gerd ever since.
The same goes for What You Like actually. This is a truly uncompliacted deep house tune released on Mantini's very own Smooth Sounds in 1992. Now 20 years later these trax still are as actual as they were back then.
The two new track that Enrico recorded for this EP complement the release in a nice way indeed. Don't Make is a loose track with warm chords, organ stabs and nicely shuffled beats. Last but not least comes U Deep Me, a fantastic hypnotic bomb that sounds fantastic on any club system.

Hailing from the early age of house music, Enrico Mantini is internationally renowned as a Deep House pioneer.

Born in Pescara (Italy) in 1972, Enrico grew up with music running through his veins, starting his long-standing relationship with it at the age of 10 by taking piano lessons, listening to adult music and later focusing on DJing.

Since his debut in the music industry in 1990, he has appeared on cult labels such as UMM, Smooth Sound, MBG International, Marcon Music and more recently contemporaries PURISM, Half Baked, Traxx Underground, Veniceberg and Wilson.

His music has been heard (and danced to) in thousands of DJ sets around the globe, supported by almost all style bigwigs like Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano, Zip, Raresh, Jamie Jones, Jeremy Underground, to name but a few

As a DJ he has played gigs in legendary venues such as Tresor (DE), Pacha (UK), Space (ES), Ministry Of Sound (UK), Gipsy (RU), Concrete (FR), Hoppetosse (DE), Paradiso (IT), Kinky (IT) and many more.

Perfection has always been his obsession when composing and performing, and as an MPC enthusiast since 1988, he has composed and produced his entire discography with a minimal approach, using only hardware instruments and never compromising on quality. For these reasons, listening to his music offers a distinctive, unique experience.

In well over 30 years in the electronic scene, Enrico has produced hundreds of releases to date, earning him a solid reputation as an artist and ultimately becoming seminal for the Deep House genre.

Since 2021, Enrico has given up producing house music and performing as a DJ to completely focus on a very personal and emotive, forward-thinking downtempo mix of jazz and funk.

Together with some Italian jazz musicians, he has recently written a new chapter in his musical path: the new 14-song album ’Kinda Jazz After All’, which offers a musical journey through many styles and atmospheres, where Enrico has produced, arranged and played most of the instruments, uniquely mastered by his many years of experience.

On the technical side, he is widely known as a Mastering Engineer who successfully runs his own DDA Mastering studio, where he offers a completely Analog audio treatment, assisted by vintage 90s Vacuum and Tape technologies.

Low F Recordings is his latest label project rooted in jazz.
