Haydn

This is the second movement from Schubert's Piano Sonata in A major, D.959, one of the final three sonatas he composed shortly before his death. It was not published until 10 years after he died. 
This second movement is marked Andantino, indicating a somewhat slow tempo. It begins with a poignant, even lamenting melody. The middle section is agitated and relatively harsh. This leads to a brief serene interlude that then returns to the original melody, now transformed to be less nostalgic and more foreboding.

New England Conservatory Chamber Orchestra, coached by Donald Palma performs the first movement of Joseph Hadyn's Symphony No. 49 In F Minor, "La Passione". Recorded live in 2005 in NEC's Jordan Hall.

This is a recording of the award-winning performance from the Los Angeles-based John Marshall High School orchestra, playing at the California Music Educators Association conference in 1961 under the direction of Morris Halford.

During that semester now well-known composer Peter Schickele (P.D.Q. Bach) was wrapping up his Julliard doctorate by working with this high school orchestra, and composing and conducting two new works.

In addition, senior Michele Zukovsky (née Bloch) performed a solo work and went on—at the age of 18—to become the principle clarinet for The Los Angeles Philharmonic. A position she would hold for the next 54 years before retiring in 2015.
