I wanted to express the repetitive attempt to touch what remains out of reach. Physically. Mentally. Locked from the outside. Locked from the inside.  When the words are missing. When the meaning is nowhere. 
To go on. Try. Again and again.

Gilles passed away a few months ago. But his love for music and playing guitar, and all the music he has played are still living with us. 

I dedicated this song to his family and friends.

Imagine that on a sunny Sunday you are walking in a splendid nature. Then, you see, in a hidden place, "a clear fountain"  …an infinite shades of blue in the crystal clear water, mottled by light's refraction. Wouldn't you crave for a bath here ? 
I know I would ! 

Just the title of this song is a call to beauty and reverie. 

When I learned this song as a child, I never realized how nostalgic it was. Probably because, at this time, I only knew the first stance and the chorus. Indeed, the character evolves in a delightful setting - that I try to recreate sonically - but all the exterior pleasantness contrasts with the interior emotional landscape, made of mourning and nostalgia. I chose to sing only the 3 first stances because I didn't want to reduce this universal experience of nostalgia to a particular case or event. And at this point of the song, it remains rather vague. I wanted to keep the meaning of the song that way.

This song reminds me that life is an inner experience. When sadness fills the mind, as it is for the character in that song, even the most cheerful song of a bird can be a highlight to pain.  « Your heart is made for laughing….Mine, it can only cry »

Also, for having experienced loss like everyone else. There is no nostalgia in losing something painful and harmful. On the contrary, we feel a relief.  And most of the time, there is no will to turn back to that kind of memories. If a remembrance comes, it is by haunting. 
When we experience, most of the time, with perfectly imperfect being, benevolence, honesty, good will, a bit of empathy or any other things that we feel valuable in life : This kind of loss is bitter-sweet. 
Bitter, for a short time, because the weaning is not fun. And sweet, for a long time, because of the gratitude and the valuable memories. 

Surely, on a big scale, all this experiences, all of them are equally useful and informative.
But with all my heart, I hope you will learn what you need to learn from life, through enthusiasm, bravery, boldness and inspiration and not pain, threats, violence, constraints and damage. 
And if pain really is unavoidable, may it be the bitter-sweet one.

Here we are in December. The last month of this memorable and challenging year  2020 !
