Milestones! Throughout Ibadan Records’ illustrious 27-year history and its ongoing transcendent surge into the future, there are certain milestones to acknowledge. This brings us to our 150th release by Ibadan’s intern turned A&R, Janne Tavi (@jannetavi).

“BADLANDS” is an ode to the next generation. Named after Janne Tavi’s London radio show, focusing on the next generation. Badlands, the release, is a gripping track infused with tribal influences, exemplifying Ibadan’s raw influence on Janne Tavi’s diverse musical skills.

On the remix, we have one of the brightest new stars in Afro House, Morocco’s Cee ElAssaad (@ceeelassaad), flipping the original and turning it into Afro-House bliss.

Following this year’s Felabration celebrations, DJ Said, the founder of Fatsouls Records, teams up with Morocco’s extraordinary Cee EIAssaad to create a potent dedication to Fela Kuti, the omnipresent Nigerian musician. Our music today owes a great deal to Fela as an influence. To that purpose, we give a tribute by utilizing his impact.

This first installment of a two-part release is a scorching single with two mixes. All to the components of this composition, including the horns, synth, and vocals, work together to keep the groove alive. The rhythm echoes the uplifting mood of spoken words and modern Afro house. Look for the Part Two vinyl cut in the first few months of 2023.
This release will effortlessly “ignite our mind and soul with inspiration.”

Bayacou Records presents the long anticipated collaborative album between soulful powerhouse duo Ezel & Rona Ray. Having consolidated their position with an array of previous singles, all of them achieving critical acclaim, they are now ready to unveil to the world their magnum opus in a full album experience showcasing the depth of their joint creative vision.

Hard to Stay Away' their first collaboration together back in 2021, that is also included as one the songs of the album,  still sits at the helm of the main editorial charts in Spotify, has seen the constant spin of Djs such Dj Spinna, Kai Alce, Isoul8 among others and its currently on its fourth repress cycle on vinyl as its physical inception has become a strongly coveted item featuring one of the most distinct and memorable remixes of UK house maestro Atjazz.  Their follow up single 'No Gravity' unique for its clever use of an odd time signature 5/4 over 4/4 dance constancy hits you like anything else you have heard and immediately makes big guns in the genre notice, as if these two are trying to really tell us something here.  Later, in the summer of 2022 their first real summer hit arrived in the form of 'Don't Know Yet'. Even to this day you can hear house music royalty like German house don Mousse T,  new generation powerhouse Ash Lauryn, the iconic Natasha Diggs and even the world famous Seth Troxler include it in their sets as it has been documented on several social media posts. And if you are thinking that marked the ceiling for these two, what they did with their latest single 'History Repeating' was the last straw that broke the camel's back as they say, an instant #1 traxsource overall hit that saw massive overall support and was literally played everywhere especially in discerning floors in the UK and the United States as their superbly sound was put in world Dj Spen conveyed to Ezel as 'how modern soulful house should sound in 2023' 

That brings us to the present time where they finally connect all the dots for people to see and bring us 'Take Me Home', the definitive testament of their collaboration that spans over 3 years. It highlights the chemistry between the duo, their wondrous interplay of influences, all encapsulated in deeply satisfying modern dance music, and especially with the common denominator that is soul and authenticity that is what they bring.  The album starts with a 1 minute 20 sec intro track that feels almost as what you would imagine if they put together a live show, which we hope they do. It immediately reel you into their sonic world bringing a sort of wow factor as depicting things to come.  The next 14 songs take you thru the motions of the distinct 'house flavors' they pick to display above all amazingly written songs that depart from what you would expect from the vocal house anthems they have established before as in 'Don't Know Yet' 'History Repeating' going to the more stripped down 'Hard to Stay Away' but they dive into new territory, adding new spice to their core soulful house groove and that's how they tease us some live funky bass, throwback percussion with the disco infused 'Endless Summer', some heavy 90s energy with the crafty and lyrically unique 'Forrest Gump'  and even more electronic almost disclosure like propositions in the case of  'If I Am Being Real' and 'Nothing is What it Seems' where Ezel's precise use pitched vocal samples enhance Rona's inherent classic R&B flair in her vocal delivery.  Other memorable cuts are 'Floating' that features tasty horn licks, a contribution from the famous Horn section that accompanies DJ Natasha Diggs on their infamous 'Soul in the Horn' parties. The album also features a song homonymous to the album name 'Take Me Home'. it carries the essential elements to their now trademark formulas for soulful hits: a great song composition arranged to perfection with the most infectious groove.

Mexican singer/percussionist/producer/DJ sensation Pahua comes to Razor-N-Tape via a huge 12” + 7” remix project featuring some of the hottest producer names in current outer-national dance music.  

Originally the singer of beloved Mexican band Sotomayor, Pahua blazed her own solo path in 2020, developing her unique electronic Latin sound through a series of EPs, culminating in the release of her standout Habita LP on Nacional Records in 2023. Garnering millions of streams, Habita established Pahua as an essential voice of modern alternative folk/pop in Latin America, and now Razor-N-Tape brings her sound to the dance floors of the world with a varied remix package that honors the essence of the original music, while flipping it in quintessential RNT club-ready fashion.

The list of remixers on this project includes both staples and new recruits to the RNT production stable. Label co-head JKriv turns in a late-nite bass mix of the exceedingly popular ‘Porque Yo,’ Tigerbalm brings her chugging international disco flair to ‘Pa’lante,’ Prince of Queens digs deep with a housey dub of ‘Calla,’ and Londoner Clive From Accounts takes ‘Caña Brava’ into moody nu-disco meets amapiano territory. The label newcomers also deliver in a huge way, with LA-based Captain Planet and Quebecois producer Poirier each revealing very different but equally banging sides of the uptempo ‘Espantapájaros,’ respectively percussive and thumping, and stripped down and hypnotic. Detroit Latin production legend John Beltran adorns the melancholic ‘Flor de Jazmin’ with a samba-inflected rhythmic foundation and a lush horn arrangement that transports you straight to Cafe del Mar, Ibiza. And Mexican producer Belmar rounds out the package with a slow rolling and deep mix of ‘Porque Yo.’

With a collection of remixes as prolific and solid as these, RNT opted for an expansive 12” + 7” package that features seven of the remixes across the two slabs of vinyl. The gorgeous cover artwork flips the moonrise eclipse motif of the original Habit album cover perfectly, with a slick device that reveals a crescent moon as the record is removed from the jacket.

Thandi Draai, a leading lady in the Afro house scene, has made her mark through her influential radio show in South Africa, her numerous great singles and compilations for Get Physical, and her work on this pivotal label. She is a DJ, producer, and vocalist who is shaping the global Afro sound. She collaborates once again with fellow scene figurehead Cee ElAssaad, a chart-topping artist known for his versatility and celebrated for his collaborations with artists like Antonio Ocasia and Janne Tavi. 

The magnificent 'Ashambeni' is an almost eight-minute journey into deeply captivating drums and soul-stirring synth craft. The bright sequences loop and rise up through the mix while the spine-tingling vocals are rousing and empowering over organic percussion and moving bass that will sweep up the dance floor.

Premiere: Thandi Draai & Cee ElAssaad - Ashambeni [Connected]

Presenting their second release of the year, Pedro Capelossi’s Refraction imprint welcomes Chiari to the label for his debut EP. Healing from Brazil, Chiari first emerged in 2019 on the strength of releases for The Purr and Magician on Duty. With a deep, organic and groovy sound, the Balneário Camboriú resident was quickly tipped as a new artist to watch going forward. The next three calendar years would see Chiari choose his projects wisely, adding Hoomidaas, Seven Villas and Where The Heart Is to his discography, while refining his repertoire with further depth, colour and detail. A remix of Pedro Capelossi’s ‘Horimono’ via Loot Recordings ended 2023 on a high note, ultimately leading to his first release of 2024, and subsequent Refraction debut ‘Plans & Plants’, alongside remixes from Retza and Luis Leon.
