I discovered Frankie Knuckles through his music, one that was, gentle, lush with a subdued, understated power that rocked many a dancefloor.
I had the privilege to hear him once in the heyday of his legendary residency at Sound Factory Bar in New York. I was submerged, sonically and emotionally by the beauty of the music I heard that night. I remember very clearly saying to myself that this would be impossible to ever equal.
That was 20 years ago, and I never got to hear this magic combination again.

I got to meet Frankie a few times, and he was always like his music, gentle, humble,   yet naturally imposing

I've put together here some of my favorite music from him. So that his legacy can keep on inspiring other people.

Rest in peace, Frankie, may your music keep on moving people eternally

Solid Steel (11th May) In Hour 1 we are pleased to welcome Superorganism with a concept mix based around music with themes from sea to space. Starting with 'Jungle Waters' by Sam Gellaitry, 'Sea calls me home' by Julia Holter and 'Swim Good' by Frank Ocean, the mix goes on to feature 'Stratus' by Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, 'Deep Blue Day' by Brian Eno and 'Starman' by David Bowie. Their self-titled debut album came out in March on Domino and you can catch the multinational eight-piece group at festivals throughout Europe this summer, before heading to North America and back for a full European tour in Autumn. They had this to say about their mix;

Be it through his monthly residencies at the inimitable Berghain / Panorama Bar, his solo releases for Ostgut Ton, his expansive DJ touring, or indeed his creative involvement and management of the Ostgut label since its inception and his own label Touch from A Distance. He told us;
"I remember listening to Solid Steel in its earlier days when the original Ninja Tune roster and affiliated artists would take turns in delivering the most amazing mixes in an almost casual fashion. Jungle and Drum’n’Bass almost always featuered and as it’s the music that got me into clubbing, I decided to pay tribute to this music I’ve loved so much in the 90s (and still do). Enjoy!"

I never know where it's going to end up after the editing process of hundreds of ideas. I just try to feel the music and create the story. Hopefully it ends up being timeless and music that moves us. The Black Light Disco Show airing on My House Radio on 7th December 2020 was a super tag-team event joining the Disco Houses of BLD and Discoholics Anonymous. On hosting duties in the 'Four to the Floor' Observatory atop BLD Towers was Esteban (aka Ste Hendry), who had been polishing the silverware and scrubbing the skirting boards all afternoon for the arrival of a very, very special guest - the one and only Discoholic Ken Avalon!

We're honoured and privileged to be able to call Ken a friend of the show and we’re huge admirers of what he’s doing with his own unstoppable juggernaut, Discoholics Anonymous.  Ken has been a very busy bee in 2020,  founding Discoholics Anonymous Recordings in the summer of 2020, landing a weekly Friday radio show on Prime Radio (the excellent Hot To The Touch) where he and his co-pilot, the supremely talented Martin Petersson showcase the very best of the disco scene and hold court to a very captive audience (yours truly included!)
