Get Out of My House as Anti-Valentine’s Anthem

Toronto Feb. 14, 2015- Proving their impeccable sense of timing once more, Toronto’s queer-punk EDM collective #entertainment drop their anti-amour anthem, covering the Kate Bush classic Get out of My House, just in time for Valentine’s Day. This is their first release since the politically charged and heavily streamed blog favourite Bored of Rob Ford featuring Peaches. The single comes out in anticipation of the collective releasing their full length album later this year. Expect guest appearances from Lydia
Lunch, DJ Rhiannon, Blondtron, and Ndidi Onukwulu.

While lying in a hammock in Mexico under the full moon and listening to a haunting instrumental produced by bandmate Dislexia, former Stinkmitt MC Betti Forde was suddenly possessed by the vocal melody from Get Out of My House. An obsessive Kate Bush fan, she discovered that the melody fit perfectly over Dislexia’s down-tempo, scary and sexy beat.

Rumored to have been inspired by both The Shining and Alien, Bush’s ode to autonomy is arguably one of her more disturbing tracks and appears on 1982’s The Dreaming, one of her most experimental LPs.

Freshly mixed and mastered, the #entertainment version will be available as a free download on Valentine’s Day on SoundCloud.

“…[R]eally the whole atmosphere was inspired by The Shining. I read the book and it was such an incredibly strong atmosphere, very creepy, very haunted, and I used it to…set [the] song [to] the same atmosphere, but instead of it being a hotel it[‘s]a house, which is also a human being. Following her breakout EP, SiS, Jasmine Infiniti returns with thirteen disruptive club tracks fit for the The Infernal Ballroom. On her meticulously-crafted debut LP, she conjures occult rave incantations with sub-tectonic bass and spectral, seductive harmonies. Audaciously championing R&B, vogue and hip-hop sounds, Jasmine Infiniti’s latest collection of techno-hybrid dance tunes is bound to be the new soundtrack of NYC’s queer underground nightlife. 

Where SiS was an ode to queer solidarity, community and sisterhood, BXTCH SLÄP is as much about personal myth-building as it is about claiming individual space as a queer person. 

BXTCH SLÄP is cunt, unflinching and uncompromising, but it also boasts surprising range—moving briskly between ethereal hardcore house (“HOTT”), the anxious pounding of dark electro (“SPOOKED”), and certifiable techno bangers (“YES, SIR”, “WELLFAIR”). Meanwhile album standout “<3” hovers just above 100 BPM, a defiant statement of sensuality, calmness, and euphoria that’s no less gripping for its dramatic deceleration. Closing number “SHONUFF” clocks in at ten and half minutes; not a second of this adrenaline-rush of an acid techno tune feels wasted. BXTCH SLÄP might be most appropriate for the club, played at dangerously high volumes, but this music certainly takes on a new life after hours, in the moments we spend between the parties, alone and full of desire. 

The Queen of Hell is back and her powers are stronger than ever.

#entertainment are a queer-punk-sound-system fronted by legendary MC/DJ Betti Forde (StinkMitt) and backed by producer wiz kid and DJ Dislexia. Taking their cues from beloved sound system and producer collectives such as Basement Jaxx, Groove Armada and Massive Attack, #entertainment are currently recording their debut LP Music For Protests, featuring collaborations from Ndidi Onukwulu, Lydia Lunch, Blondtron, DJ Rhiannon, and more TBA.

#entertainment formed accidentally on purpose one dark and snowy night when Betti Forde and Dislexia were booked to DJ together at the now-defunct Junction institution Margaret Bar. They instantly recognized each other as kindred souls who shared a sh*tload of love for dance music and absolutely no regard for the conventions of the mainstream entertainment industry. 

Their second date found them banging out a sick remix for ProCon’s “Pretty Pony”, and having so much fun that they followed up with the protest bomb “Bored of Rob Ford” featuring Peaches, “[A] cathartic rap ballad with kickass beats that describes the former mayor of Toronto’s (many) transgressions” (Xtra.ca). After that, it was ON!
