Brussels' Initiate Records releases their 'Winter Nights' compilation next month, bringing forward producers whose music they cherish. 

As a way to connect all the pieces together, they asked the artists to follow the theme of “long winter nights” and to translate that emotion into music. What results is a varied compilation going from lightness to darkness.

In 'Su - Ri - Pu' the Austrian DnB producer Nusku pulled together a half tempo, dub-heavy track with deep tribal influences.

Monochrome presents, 𝖆𝖚𝖙𝖔𝖒𝖓𝖊 𝖑𝓥 : Yin Yang Audio, Syhda Music / a-biotic.

This autumn, Monochrome is offering each month to one or several artists to discover their influences and inspirations through a forty-five minute to two hour recording. These three recordings will focus on percussive rhythms between Ambient, Deep Techno and Drum & Bass.

Artist biography :
Yin Yang Audio is the essence of experimentation. Coming from various genres, I attempt to carve out a sound with no genre restrictions. the project began to take shape with the release 'From the void' on Onset Audio where the idea was to break sonic barriers- grab themes from techno, deep dnb, indusrial, ambient and the experimental melt it into a crucible and see what kinds of awesome shapes come about.

Along with unveiling the second part of the Cassettes project with 7 new compositions of exploratory ambient, drone, noise and emotion, I decided to share some of the project's background with you.

"Cassettes" are based on the concept of an imaginary scenario, in which the listener stumbles upon a long forgotten collection of unreleased music from a 'spiritual relative', familiarising with the work almost in an contemporary-archeological manner, accompanied by notes of nostalgia and a sense of uncovering a secret indirectly related to listener's own existence.

On a higher level, it's an expression of thought: the set and setting in which we consume sound can impact the experience with such strength at times, bending the default preferences, enabling deeper emotional responses, adding dimensions to the signal.

Personally, the project's inspiration stems from digging deeper into the history, lore, most-certainly-fake anecdotes, events and dynamics that cemented the roots and shaped the youngest branches of my family's tree.

About this release:
Standards & Practices is proud to present "Stave Interpretations” — remixes of original material by Stave @stavesoundsystem, featuring Israel Vines @israel-vines, Patrick Russell @ptrckrssll, Ken Meier @ken-meier, Karkossyn @karkossyn, and YŌKA @yokatechno.

The first interpretation comes courtesy of Patrick Russell — who, in addition to being a visionary DJ, has proven himself to be a terrific remixer and producer in his own right — contributes a version of "Drum Four" that is arguably one of his best to date: a sinuous, grimy excursion into unknown waters brimming with atmosphere and menace.

Following Russell, Krohn himself brings us a disintegrated, alternative take on "Drum Three."

Karkossyn, aka Bristol native Tavis Hitchcock, is easily one of the most thrilling discoveries we've made as of late. His split EP with Stave ("New Values" on S&P) is only his second release to date, and both devastating interpretations of “Relearn/Forget” on display here, two juddering, broken beat behemoths, hint at even greater things to come.

Newcomers YŌKA contribute a suitably monstrous, industrial-tinged version of "Drum Two."

Veteran DJ and producer Israel Vines, who recently released a pair of brilliant EPs on Tresor — including a superb collaboration with Camille Altay as CAIV — uses a fast-paced, halftime approach to rethink “005", full of energy and an almost unbearable, nerve-jangling tension.

And finally, S&P co-founder Ken Meier, who recently completed a triumphant solo venture on our sublabel Double Standards ("Imitable Behaviors”), delivers an 85 bpm version of “002" that turns the original on its ear — all terse, clipped sonics, stripped to the bone with lush pads that add cinematic sweep and grandeur.

Our next premiere is from the Belgium Label, Ante-Rasa which focuses on independent expression highlighting something obscure, raw, dense, percussive & hypnotic. This particular track from @dyl170 is a mysteriously spacious number with hauntingly scattered percussions and grueling low ends. An immensely deep cut for an amazing release.
