YONG YING is a Hong Kong-based DJ who first got on the decks in 2020 and has since been driven by a relentless passion for digging and playing music. Her sets are known to combine dark experimental sounds, industrial techno, and a vibey dose of EBM. After a year of playing in a wide range of events and parties, she has built her sound and aesthetic while steadily making her mark in Hong Kong’s electronic music scene. She is now a regular at 宀 club and a resident of Entropy 熵.

Pitch Dark is a new VA series brought to you by Berlins Pure Hate Trax.

For this the 1st in the series they invite 3 new Artists to the label but by no means new to the scene in Codex Empire, Maedon & 7CIRCLE. Also making a welcome return after his debut on VHXX1 is STRISC.

Codex Empire - Since 2014, British born, Vienna based Codex Empire has built an international reputation for dark and intense techno productions and live shows. Combining this background in dark electronic music with heavy rhythmic elements makes Codex Empire an intense and simultaneously danceable experience both live and on record.

Codex Empire has performed over 100 live shows across Europe, Japan, Korea and Canada, as well as numerous appearances in Berlin at Berghain, Tresor, Arena Club, Suicide Circus and BoilerRoom.

Maedon - A native of notoriously grimy Baltimore who spent some seasons in filthy Philadelphia learning the craft, her arrival in New York City circa 2018 signalled a shift in development, one confirmed by the emergence of her Maedon moniker and her partnership with Brooklyn/Berlin techno powerhouse Sonic Groove and its head Adam X. 

Fast forward three years to Berlin, two albums, a residency at Tresor and an entire world later, Maedon forges ahead to the next phase of a rapidly building career. Assuring her future as the world falls apart, Maedon’s bracing sound and undeniable skills are a story now unfolding, with its beginnings already written in grit.

7CIRCLE - At the helm of Destroy to Rebuild, 7CIRCLE is a musical project without boundaries. Drawing from post punk and metal roots, 7CIRCLE navigates across all genres including Techno and Industrial without compromise or frills. 

The journey through the discography of 7CIRCLE is a fascinating path filled with darkness and aggressive sounds which are sometimes embellished with a melancholy touch to satisfy lovers of strong emotions.

STRISC. - Hailing from the East Midlands, UK and residing in Berlin for the last 8 years, STRISC. is an Artist, DJ & Label Owner who has been making waves due to a relentless output of no-compromise productions that have garnered him the respect and attention of Techno aficionados and peers alike.

PREMIERE ╪ Rynzler - The Last Days

Nestled within a Spanish forest, the sounds of music mingle with nature. For a few days every year, new friends and old gather together to enjoy what we all love dearly. With the utmost of care the lineup is curated for a continuous stream of wonderful artists to ply their craft. Known as Perpendicular, the intimate festival brings forth incredible sets that range from ambient and experimental through to deep techno and beyond.

With the scene set in mind, we arrive at our premiere for today. Valencian artist, David Ortolà aka d_o_ppelgaenger and Szene 9. The release as a whole encapsulates his live set at the past edition of Perpendicular, which makes it all the more special and a window into what the festival provides. Szene 9 begins with swirling drone-like tones and textures followed by off-kilter percussion that evolves over the duration of the track. In addition to the overall pensive atmosphere are melancholic pads that provide just a touch of gravitas. Like a grand crescendo the elements peel away one by one leaving only the synths to gnaw away at the night.

Szene 9 and the remainder of d_o_ppelgaenger’s amazing ‘Live at Perpendicular 2024’ release will be the first on the brand new label, Sediments on November 3rd. Run by both David, and Jaime Romero aka Estrato Aurora the Valencian label will be closely watched and (listened to) by us here at Delayed.

With a unique blend of techno, industrial, broken beats, experimental sound, noise, and EBM, her sets tell a story filled with heart-pounding bass and pulsating rhythms, seamlessly crafting a dark sonic tapestry.

Her sound is an exploration of emotion and identity, reflecting her diverse background and the vibrant cultures that shape her artistry. She believes the dance floor is a sanctuary for shared exploration and profound connection. Besides having performed at prominent clubs like Tresor, Oxi, MO1, and Watergate, she is a resident DJ at Mihn Club in Hong Kong and a member of the music collective Entropy 熵.

This mix is a little tribute to her set at Tresor back in February. Since she was unable to capture the performance live, she has recreated the essence of that night in this set.

I didn’t follow any rules or stick to a specific genre while creating it—I simply let my thoughts, emotions, and sonic obsessions speak for themselves. Every sound here was crafted with the intention of gradually shaping what will become my sound, my identity.

This project is the first step on a path that’s just beginning. I know there’s still a lot to improve, but I also know that everything you hear here was made with passion, dedication, and a fully self-taught process.

More music will come this year, but this EP… this one is special.
