Swedish producer, DJ and Envelope Audio label boss Nikki Pryke delivers her debut album ‘Connection’ via the imprint this November, heavily influenced by electronic pop from the 80’s and early 90’s throughout.
Residing in the Swedish capital of Stockholm, Nikki Pryke has been a staple of the music scene in her home country predominantly under her guise of Lioness which has seen her DJ alongside the likes of Ron Trent and Âme and unveil an array of material ranging from Techno to Ambient and more. Here though, under her own name, Nikki Pryke takes a divergent path and delivers a project which aesthetically leans more towards pop, nu-disco and indie.
In Nikki’s own words ‘’The artistic vision for the album was to create a sonic prism on the theme of love and connection, dressed in an electronic pop suit from the late 80’s/early 90’s. With a direct approach, the album takes the listener by the hand on a vulnerable journey through longing, blissful infatuation, complexity and contradictions, all the way through the universal love felt for an unborn child.’’
Across the nine-track collection, Pryke explores an amalgamation of styles from the the cinematic and textural ‘Intro’, aptly titled ‘Drone’ and ‘Song For Lula’ through to the psychedelia infused ‘Fear & Freedom’ and enchantingly catchy pop leaning ‘Hey Boy’. Also on offer are haunting, folk like compositions such as ‘Sorrow’ and ‘Hymn’, while ‘Mating’ and ‘Connection’ see Nikki lean into more classic electronica tropes with heavy doses of sub bass,
intricately programmed rhythms and dynamically unfolding synth work all intertwined with her own ethereal vocals.

This week is packed with new music and new guests on Honest Work, and what a nice way to start but with meeting up with Monique Samantha (@moniquesamanthaznam) and William (@___wa.2) on Wednesday afternoon at THF! Representing the deep electronic and dance music scene of Stockholm, Sweden --- Monique and William brought an interesting perspective to the THF Radio studio. 

William brought lots of unknown wax and a few digital jams to the party, and Monique finished out the show by playing unreleased tracks and telling stories about the fertile Swedish music scene. Honest Work is partially about discovery, and it was such an honour for my friends to come down to Berlin with all these new and unknown sounds! If you're in Stockholm in the near future, check out Monique's female-focused collective called Girlz With Good Taste - they throw nice events on a quasi-regular basis.
