He Is Exalted

This song is one of my most precious songs that I have ever written and for the most part it wrote it self kind of accidentally. It was birthed in the midst of my deepest heartbreak, confusion, and upheaval. My home no longer felt like a safe or peaceful place, I had lost a close relationship with some friends that I thought would last a lifetime, and lost my sense of self and purpose. I felt let down by people and misunderstood, and just couldn’t reconcile the feelings of betrayal and anger and disappointment.

As I cried out to God the first verse and chorus spilled out onto my page. It was a few months later when I was flicking back over old journal entries that I found these words: “Sometimes heavy hearts need steady hands to sink in. And though I cannot see clearly how or where you are working, though my heart is still fresh with the sting of broken tired and empty, I know that you’re faithful far beyond what my eyes can see and beyond what my heart can feel. So broken and uncertain, I approach your arms and I trust you will catch me even as I fall.”

I wrote the second verse a few months later. Now entering into a time where God had provided in unexpected ways- and realising that even when I feel overwhelmed by my circumstances- God is never concerned, because He is in control. He is the one who I can trust over and over again, because He is working far beyond what my eyes can see or heart can feel. 

It was in this place that God spoke “Peace” to the chaotic storm that raged within me.

Is 30:15- “You will be delivered by returning and resting, your strength will lie in quiet confidence…the Lord is waiting to show you mercy and is rising up to show you compassion…”

 Is 32:17 “The result of righteousness will be quiet confidence forever. Then my people will dwell in a peaceful place in safe and secure dwellings…”

Even on our worst days, He is right there with us waiting patiently for us to return to Him and find our rest in Him.
