Khotin has been a key figure in the developing Electronic music scene emerging from Canada - for over ten years he has been producing and releasing music.

His sound has evolved exponentially, weaving between sounds and styles with cohesive ease of which others might only dream of. His records have found a home somewhere between the heady 90's ambient and trip hop era, deep house and has drawn upon abstract influences from balearic roots, trance and a whirlwind of other other cultural guises.

All of this makes his music remarkably interesting and hard to pin down.

His forthcoming album "Release Spirit" is forthcoming on acclaimed label Ghostly International. It features a collection of ambient soundscapes, tape recordings and off piste samples as Khotin draws inspiration from far reaching influences such as World of Warcraft, train journeys through Europe and Japan, family vacations and beyond.

We asked Khotin to record a mix which reflects a similar nature of the new album - the result is a delicate assortment of textures which lend themselves to a brooding optimism for the year ahead. At least we hope..

A recent unplanned show in Bejing was a rare chance for me to share what I call my 'love songs' - beautiful, emotive records, most of which have been with me for a long time. I've only DJ'd this way a few times, and this is the first time I've got the recording. While many of the tracks have beats, I tried playing them in an ambient way, gentle and simple. Music from: Function, NWAQ, Larry Heard, Plastikman, old Kompakt and Dial-related, a few recent selections + more. Thanks to Lyu Zhiqiang (@mohemann) for making it happen. I sincerely appreciate the people who follow and listen to my sets, I am happy to share this with you.

This mix is a visualization of drifting off into an accidental fever dream, transitioning from what feels grounded and familiar towards nonsensical and dreamlike, finding yourself drift into a dream out of nowhere and exploring what emotions you find in your subconscious. With a small homage to my youth falling asleep to WHUR Quiet Storm on car rides home, flowing through feelings of love and forlornness, trepidation and uncertainty, absurdity and variety. @khotin has served up a free flowing range of multi-genre experiments since announcing himself with a soft-hued acid album on 1080p back in 2014. Now involved with running Normals Welcome as well as releasing on DFA, Pacific Rhythm and Public Release, his music is united by a distinctive take on melody, post-club melancholy and love for downtempo sounds. He crafts blissful songs filled with nostalgic feelings and is exactly the sort of artist in whom we can all find some sort of solace.

And this mix is a perfect tonic for reluctant bodies with its slowly cascading rhythms and soft focus melodies serving as a gentle New Year wakener. It's laced with perfectly dreamy pads and ramshackle drums that are never too forceful but always compelling. While often invitingly sombre in mood, the clouds do break along the way to bring moments of real lightness and joy just when you need it.

Chico has summoned his esteemed vibe smith abilities on this one, dishing out nothing but head jerkers and neck workers. 

Chico, Chico, Chico, a multifaceted diamond in the rough. The man can do no wrong. Seeing him go from strength to strength over the last however many years has been an absolute delight. Whether it is curating your tastebuds or your earbuds, he’s done everything with a certain pizzazz that only he can muster up. A consistent testament to his character is the never-ending hard work he puts into Skylab Radio, which almost single-handedly floats Melbourne's love for good music. He’s established himself as a bit of a cultural cornerstone in Melbourne and we’re all for it. This is just a friendly reminder of what Chico can do when he’s able to step back from his other duties and get behind the decks. 

Now for the important part; the finely curated musical selection, poetically arranged. This mix absolutely slaps, guaranteed 100% good vibrations. From the very start when you hear Missy Elliot singing her piece you know you’re in good hands. Classic after classic, beautifully strung together like washed-up shells around a surfer's neck. This will be one of those ‘forever’ mixes you keep on a USB that your grandkids will find in 70 years' time and unearth some old laptop, which will ultimately lead to Rush Hour repressing it onto a traditional compact disc and Chico doing hologram sets at pizza joints around the world. 

Enough bullshit. Just listen to it.
