“Open Cell Polyurethane” by Epimeleia Heautou was written and recorded by Neil Ragsdale in October and November 2021. (Neil began playing early versions of this song live on guitar for family and friends beginning in 2008.) The final mix is a dynamic real-time single take via an eight-track sampler (Elektron Digitakt) recorded to a stereo track at 48 kHz/24-bit in Ableton and mastered with FabFilter’s Pro-L 2 limiter. The song features “punch-in” style vocals courtesy of Tascam Portastudio 414 mkII and Shure SM7B; percussion and bass synthesized with Moog DFAM and Mother 32; and Fender Stratocaster guitar played through the JHS Colour Box.
