EPM Podcast 142 comes from ghetto-tech, booty, hip-hop, electro, house and techno producer, Detroit’s Filthiest. Detroit’s Filthiest (Julian Shamou) began DJing as a teenager in Detroit in the mid-90s and has gone on to produce over 100 records under multiple aliases including DJ Nasty, Digitek, 313 Bass Mechanics and these days, Detroit's Filthiest. Here for our 142nd podcast we get Detroit’s Filthiest undiluted as Julian shakes it up with new releases ‘Werewolf’ and ‘All White Buffs’ amongst the many rump-shakin’ anthems in his cannon.

Originally born in Baghdad, Shamou and his family moved to Detroit in the summer of 1983, just before the dawn of techno. Despite growing up in Detroit during the ‘80s and ‘90s, Shamou never planned on a career in electronic music.  "All the music that I liked, you could only get on 12" records; they wouldn't make it on CD," he says of his early record collecting days. "I just wanted to have this music.  I was buying vinyl for a year before I bought a $99 turntable.  A year after I bought that turntable, I bought a drum machine and thought, this is more exciting.  I want to make music."

Shamou soon became a part of the city's emerging Ghettotech scene in the late 90s, working primarily under the alias DJ Nasty. In 2002 he released 'Pass Out' under his 313 Bass Mechanics alias for Ed DMX's Breakin Records.  Fast-forward to 2015 and platinum selling UK house dons, Disclosure sample it for their massive ‘Bang That’ track.

Today, Detroit's Filthiest continues to push boundaries with his music production.  Refusing to stick within just one genre he makes hip hop beats, bouncing electro bombs, smooth house cuts, warehouse techno and booty shaking tracks as his Motor City Electro Company imprint (MCEC), which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2019, continues to channel his creative output and Detroit’s Filthiest becomes his main production alias.

As well as releases on MCEC, he has also released on the likes of Defected (with the smash ‘Handprint’), Casa Voyager, Bass Agenda, Philthtrax, Defrostatica, RotterHague Records and many more.

Detroit’s Filthiest’s new electro track ‘Werewolf’ features on ‘EPM20 – EP2’ alongside new cuts from The Advent and Zein Ferreira, Carl Finlow and Modulator AKA Freddie Fresh.

EPM Podcast 147 comes from UK techno artist, Regis. Karl O’Connor has remained a maverick and iconic figure on the global techno stage, ever since his 'Montreal' EP burned his name across the world's dancefloors some 25 years ago. His unconventional and single-minded label, Downwards, often shrouded by mythology, remains one of the most revered electronic labels in the history of techno. So when Karl offered to cast a critical eye over some of the key releases in EPM’s 20 year history we of course jumped at the chance to invite Birmingham’s finest over. A decision that we have subsequently regretted ever since.

With a wide array of influences, which go far beyond the musical universe; the painter Val Denham, writers and authors Samuel Beckett, Eza Pound, Jean Genet and Georges Bataille, music wise, his source of inspiration includes Einsturzende Neubauten, Pussy Galore, Stooges, Johnny Thunders, John Cale, Sex Gang Children, World Domination Enterprise, XON/Sweet Exorcist, etc. He has been quoted saying: "The things that I liked were made by people who had actually been making music since the post-punk era, if not before." 

Never one to tread the easy path, O'Connor alongside known projects such as British Murder Boys (with Surgeon), O/V/R with James Ruskin and Sandwell District alongside Function and Silent Servant has more recently collaborated with artists such as Ann Margaret Hogan (piano) and Justin K. Broadrick on guitar (previously of Godflesh) for a one-off concert performed live in the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, Argolis, Greece as well as releasing last year's stunning new album 'In This Is The Light That You Miss' on Downwards.  In his continuous search to side-step convention, he remains one of the more highly regarded creative forces within the British techno/electronic scene.

Now over 20 years after their creation EPM are proud to release 'Beyond the Reach of Time'. An EP that gives long-lost Regis tracks the official release they deserve as the closing chapter in our EPM20 vinyl series. ‘EPM20’ is out now.

EPM Podcast 148 comes from non-other than France’s greatest techno ambassador, Laurent Garnier. Garnier remains one of the world’s biggest champions of house and techno music. His enthusiasm and love for the scene has taken him the world over in his roles as a producer, radio show host and above all, globe-trotting headline DJ. His building DJ sets, full of invention and emotion are the stuff of legend and he remains at the peak of his artistic powers. After 4 years behind the scenes it was revealed this September that Cod3 QR was in fact the label he founded anonymously in 2018 with Scan X. The enigmatic label has presented artists' names first coded, then revealed later, featuring artists such as Agents Of Time, R.O.S.H., CYRK, Madben and Joe Farr. Whilst Scan X has left the project to concentrate on his own projects, Laurent now runs the label in conjunction with EPM and Oliver Way. Here he celebrates the label with an exclusive Cod3 QR mix featuring tracks from the mysterious label and some exclusive unreleased future gems. Once again it’s time to arouse your curiosity…!

Laurent Garnier has been making the planet dance for 30 years. One of the pioneering DJs of the dance music scene, he experienced first-hand the euphoria of the acid-house movement in Manchester. He then went on to Wake Up and shake up Paris nightlife, from La Luna to the Palace, not forgetting the Rex Club. As one of the leading lights in French dance music, he has spread his message across the planet, from raves to warehouse parties, clubs to festivals. He is a multi-faceted eclectic artist whose impact on the music scene is far-reaching. But above all he is a DJ, a true DJ. 

His latest releases have been on Kompakt, Rekids and Cod3 QR, the label he founded anonymously in 2018 with Scan X. During 4 years of mystery, the enigmatic label presented artists' names first coded, then revealed later. Unavoidable artists such as Agents Of Time or Joe Farr were then revealed. Finally on the 10th of September 2021, it was revealed that Laurent Garnier and Scan X were behind the French techno project from the beginning with the launch of the 10th release of the label. 

In the last few years, Laurent has composed tracks for the soundtrack of the film Paris est à nous (2019) as well as the soundtrack of the documentary Le Roi Batard (2020), which was awarded at the Jackson Wild Film Festival this year. He is currently composing the soundtrack for the film Entre la vie et la mort de Giordano Gederlini (release planned for 2022 – distributed by Le Pacte). 

Garnier’s musical journey has also been documented by the 2003 book Electrochoc (co-written with David Brun-Lambert) and the recent full-length film, ‘Off The Record’ (2021). After 30 years devoted to music, Laurent has been made Chévalier de la Légion d´Honneur in 2017.

GaiaLive Internet Radio, the world's first Internet Radio station. Established in late 1995, set-up by DJ Redz (Freek FM), Mr C (The Shamen) and Steve Kennedy. Taken over subsequently and still owned/run by Timothy Paul Read.
Oliver Way had a weekly mid week show where he showcased the latest releases in House & Techno, and occasionally had a guest mix. This is UK Techno DJ/Producer Paul Mac (Stimulus Records) guest mix from sometime in that period, circa 1998.

EPM Podcast 159 is a totally upfront new techno mix from Token Records’ head man, Kr!z. Led by deeply hypnotic grooves, syncopated rhythms and reverberating atmospheres, his DJ style teases the collective, driving minimal beats into a heady cauldron of volcanic funk. Bringing together such electronic luminaries as Marcelo Antonio, Altinbas & Cirkle, Oscar Mulero, Robert Hood, The Advent, Mike Parker, Norbak, Border One, Isabel Soto and several of his new studio productions (including the soon to be released ‘Atlantis’), Kr!z shows us why both he and Token have been at the forefront of techno for the last 15 years.   

After making a name for himself as a skilled DJ with sharp focus and a quick mixing style in home country Belgium and the Netherlands, Kr!z launched Token Records in 2007. It has since been a leading outlet for heady, purist sounds. He rapidly established the label as a fixed value with a timeless and powerful sound and took it around the world with label nights on every continent. Token remains important in defining techno today - always straightforward, sometimes weird, often catchy – all under the helm of Kr!z as avid A&R.

After 12 years spent assiduously focused on curating the Token discography, showcasing artists he has nurtured and supported over this time, and incorporating the connoisseur’s knowledge and experience he has cultivated in his work as a DJ, 2019 saw the release of his long-awaited debut EP on Token. ‘Mantra’ received high acclaim by both media and the scene's key DJ’s. This continued in 2020, when he released the track ‘Scorpion’s Tail’ on Voltage Imprint and ‘Malice’ & ‘Imperative Needs’ as part of a split EP with Pfirter on his MindTrip label. 2022 will be his most prolific year to date with three full EPs seeing the light of day: ‘Neutrino EP’ on James Ruskin’s Blueprint Records, ‘The Tunnel’ on Setaoc Mass’ hotshot SK_eleven and a third one on his own Token Records.

Kr!z’s new EP ‘Atlantis’ is released 25 November on Token.

As a party-goer in the halcyon days of Amsterdam clubbing in the 90s and someone who witnessed legendary clubs like RoXY and iT in full swing, Ritzi Lee’s love of techno is rooted in its origins. This has been perfectly captured by this recent DJ + 909 drum machine set at Freedom Festival in Medellin, Columbia which Steve peppers with his own off the cuff TR-909 live jams. Death & Leisure boss and long time Blueprint artist, Oliver Ho has been at the forefront of the UK's avant garde techno and electronic scene since the mid 90s. 

This mix for Oliver Way's Gaia Live Radio Show from 2000 is released in conjunction with his contribution to EPM's 'V-Series', the 'Colours for the Blind EP'. Originally released in 2000 on the Sequential label the EP has never been officially available on digital until now. Remastered for today's dancefloors the EP comes backed by the original Damon Wild Subtractive Mix as well as two unreleased digital exclusives in the shape of 'Red' and 'Silver (Alt. Version)', both made at the same time but never available until now. This mix throws it back to Oliver's DJ style from a very fertile period of UK techno creativity.

Influenced by the eclectic sounds of 80s Electro and the booming Miami Bass, Exzakt's musical journey began amidst the pulsating beats and neon lights of Miami's iconic clubs. Larry brings together all his musical influences for an expansive ride through Miami Bass, electronica, synthcore and of course electro! Renowned for his boundary-pushing sound and dynamic live performances, Exzakt quickly earned the respect of top personalities in electronic music. His label, Monotone, serves as a platform for showcasing his innovative productions alongside releases on esteemed imprints such as Skint, Tresor Records, and Fabric Records.

EPM Podcast #180 - Silicone Soul

EPM.185 comes from Marshall Jefferson. Marshall is one of house music’s most important founding fathers. A key player in the Chicago house scene from the start, re-leases like ‘Open Our Eyes’, ‘7 Ways to Jack’ and the immortal ‘Move Your Body’ have had an undeniable impact on the development of house music as we know it today. He has recorded solo and collaborative material under various names such as Virgo, Jungle Wonz, Truth and On the House – many of which have elevated house music to a new level. We are totally honoured to have Marshall deliver a prime house party mix that brings a mixture of classic cuts and lesser-known gems with releases from Mr. Fingers, Hanna, Alex Finkin, DJ Disciple, Sebb Junior, Grant Nelson and Joe Smooth’s roof rais-ing anthem. A total joy from beginning to end!

Sometimes known as the God Father of house music, Grammy Nominated Jefferson was originally a record producer in the Universal Recording Studios in Chicago, where he met the owner of Trax Records, Larry Sherman.  Jefferson’s 1986 single for Trax, “Move Your Body”, the first house song to use piano, was a popular and influential song in the genre. During the late-1980s heyday of house music, he recorded solo and collaborative material under various names such as Virgo, Jungle Wonz, Truth, and On the House. Jefferson’s deep house productions include songs by CeCe Rogers and Sterling Void, and Ten City’s first two albums. 

Jefferson’s releases like ‘Open Our Eyes’, ‘7 Ways to Jack’ and the immortal ‘Move Your Body’ had an undeniable impact on the development of house music as we know it today. Jefferson’s releases on the iconic TRAX Records helped establish the label as one of Chicago’s best, and he has continued to put out some of the most widely-acclaimed mu-sic in house music history.  Over the years, Marshall has had a hand in house music’s evolution, spearheading the acid house movement with his work on the seminal ‘Acid Trax’ with DJ Pierre in 1987. He also turned his hand to deep house, most notably on ‘Open Our Eyes’, released in 1988 on Big Beat, which connected emotionally and physi-cally with listeners.  As well as growing the genre in his hometown, Marshall Jefferson was integral to house music’s growth worldwide. The DJ headline the first House Music Tour of Europe in 1987. After a brief hiatus in the early 1990s, Marshall began his legend-ary five-year residency with the Tribal Gathering and Big Love Events in London, during which time he released his 1997 studio album ‘Day Of The Onion’, which is considered one of the best house full-lengths of all time.  

Today, Jefferson continues to release original productions and extended mixes including remixes for Katy Perry, Galantis, Pet Shop Boys, and Oliver Heldens, alongside his standout DJ shows around the globe.  House music truly wouldn’t be the same without him.

EPM.186 comes from Tal Fussman. Tal creates music that works in many set-tings and transcends genres. His openness to a wide range of sound is what has both made him a widely loved favourite and also someone who operates in his own parallel musical world. Here Tal delivers a techno mix that brings in el-ements of IDM and electro, giving the mix a diverse edge. With tracks from Bio-sphere, Peter Van Hoesen, JakoJako & Rødhåd, Carl Finlow, Djrum, Robert Hood, DJ Bone, Mark Broom and Kashpitzky plus more, Tal takes us for a glori-ous electronic dancefloor ride across the tracks.

In late 2022, Tal announced the launch of his imprint ‘Survival Tactics’, with the first release being his debut album (June 2023). Tal grew up in a small town next to Tel Aviv and today resides in Berlin - ready to take on whatever adven-ture is awaiting for him.

EPM.187 comes from Chloe Lula. Raised in San Francisco and based in Berlin, DJ and producer Chloe is known for her deep and atmospheric sound that pulls from the niche recesses of techno. Here we can find her tough yet deep and bass driven sound creating a hypnotic groove that weaves together tracks from Viels, Bill Youngman, Function, Cassegrain, Traversable Wormhole, Edit Select, Mike Parker, Yan Cook, BLANKA and more.

Originally trained as a classical cellist, Chloe left the conservatory at 18 when she discovered raving and electronic music, moving to Berlin shortly thereafter to immerse herself in the city’s burgeoning techno scene. The confluence of these worlds has forged her textural approach to techno and inspired her to re-turn to her instrument. Today, she uses the cello to write full-length ambient, electroacoustic live shows as well as deconstructed tones and timbres that help form the unique character of her releases for the dance floor.

Chloe is a resident DJ at Tresor. She's played at Berghain, Boiler Room, Movement Detroit, and countless clubs, festivals and parties across Asia, Eu-rope, and, North and South America, becoming known for atmospheric sets that dig deep into the niche recesses of techno. She has released on Tresor Rec-ords, James Ruskin’s Blueprint and P.E.A.R.L’s label Falling Ethics alongside Oscar Mulero. Her debut instrumental full-length came out on James Ginzburg’s Subtext label in November 2024. She is also the senior producer of Resident Advisor, where she hosts and curates talks and music workshops at festivals like Atonal, Nuits Sonores, Dekmantel, Unsound, Rewire, and many more. Al-ways in pursuit of honing her craft, Chloe has become an exciting, in-demand artist who’s set apart for creating a focused, introspective musical vocabulary that is uniquely her own.

EPM.189 comes from Fossil Archive boss, R.M.K. Hailing from London, R.M.K is an exciting new project by Fossil Archive label head Roberto. It represents a faster and more intense take on his unique brand of Techno. He utilises his knowledge and past experiences, which include regularly playing at Berghain and Tresor in Berlin, as well as fabric in London, to develop his individual sound. R.M.K has distilled that experience into this 2-hr set, recorded directly from his residency at The Glove That Fits, London for the EPM series. Featuring Axel Karakasis, NØRBAK, Glaskin, Juri Heidemann, Volster, James Ruskin, Stephen Brown, Franco Rossi plus a brace of unreleased tracks from Vinicius Honorio & R.M.K himself we get a flawless mix of tough yet hypnotic swinging grooves.

During his 20+ year career in music, Roberto has formed friendships and worked in partnership with other respected artists such as Trevino (Marcus In-talex), Jamie Anderson, Robert Owens, Goldie and Nastia. Although the focus is always on the very heart of the most raucous of raves, R.M.K never shies away from groove and funk. This is conveyed in a Live Show that utilises classic hardware from the golden age of UK Rave and now here on this new mix for the EPM series.

EPM.189 - R.M.K

EPM.190 comes from Science Cult boss, Syrte.  Syrte is Italian born Stefan Weise, currently residing in Colorado, US. As Syrte, Stefan has performed live and as a DJ all over the US and Europe. He is currently co- owner & co-founder of Electro and IDM label Science Cult and the host of Blue Industries on Proton Radio, which just celebrated 20 years. His DJ sets, as captured in this mix for EPM that twists DJ Stingray 313 into Blawan and Galaxian into Lord Jalapeños are high energy, 150bpm+, IDM laden affairs that have left many a listener in a daze afterwards. 

Growing up in Italy and Germany, Stefan was exposed to electronic and dance music from an early age. His father, a former Discoteque DJ, maintained a healthy collection of Italo Disco records, while his mother, always on the hunt for new music, introduced him to many of the early electronic pioneers. In 1989, during a brief stint residing in the UK, Stefan was introduced to Acid House. He was only 13 at the time. 

Over the years, his passion for futuristic music evolved and after migrating to the US, Stefan began DJing at age 17 in Dallas, TX. This eventually led to him producing his own music a few years later using a severely underpowered Macin-tosh computer and a copy of Rebirth RB-338 that his friends bought him as a birthday gift. His influences have always been Autechre, Aphex Twin and the sound of Tom Middleton & Mark Prichard aka The Jedi Knights. 

Stefan wanted to explore as many musical avenues as possible and first gained attention as Progressive Breaks artist "Stefan Anion" with his bootleg remix of Gary Jules' cover of "Mad World". Having appeared on labels such as Gem Records, King Street Sounds and Credo, he became known for his unique and futuristic dub techno sound. Stefan eventually turned to Electro and IDM under his new alias Syrte which can best be described as IDM meets Electro.

Stefan's ethos for Syrte is sound experimentation over conformity, no matter the end result.

EPM.191 comes from Hilit Kolet. Fast-rising London based DJ and producer Hilit is at the bleeding edge of 2025's fiercest beats. A classically trained musi-cian and long-time face of Soho's legendary Black Market Records, she's known for high-octane DJ sets and razor-sharp productions, her intense per-cussive blend of house and techno evokes chaos on any dancefloor. EPM.192 comes from Kmyle. With revered labels such as Soma, Mord, Cod3 QR and skryptom placing their unwavering trust in his musical prowess, Kmyle’s journey serves as a living testament to his artistry. Now he joins the EPM label with his ‘Boreal’ EP, twisting elements of deep, dark and hypnotic techno with a touch of IDM. EPM.193 comes from JAK. Jack Coleman (JAK) is a pioneer of the Pacific Northwest U.S. techno scene, recognized as a prolific artist, producer, label boss, event organizer and community builder. As a producer, JAK has released more than 150 original tracks and remixes on labels like Northern Parallels, Trapez, Illegal Alien, and his own imprint, SubSensory Recordings. Now the revered producer and DJ joins the EPM Mix series, taking us into a dub-techno reverie. “As we enter the Pacific Northwest’s long gray and rainy season, I wanted to present something deeper and more introspective than my norm. This 83-minute mix, recorded in my Portland, Oregon studio, features a blend of dub techno and deeper techno sounds, recent finds and older selections and a few gems from my SubSensory label’s past and present.”

Over two-plus decades as a DJ, JAK has shared the stage with acts like DVS1, DJ Nobu, Richie Hawtin, Zenker Brothers, and Josh Wink. He’s performed ex-tensively in Portland and Seattle, and further afield in locales like Detroit, Min-neapolis, LA, SF, Tokyo, Vancouver, BC, and Santiago de Chile.

His D.Vices moniker, launched in 2021, has landed multiple #1 sellers in Beatport’s electro category. Beyond his work as an artist, JAK’s SubSensory event series and label, along with several online #PDXTechno communities, have helped shape the thriving techno scene that exists in Portland today.

SubSensory’s 127th release features the modern, dub techno-inspired sounds of Justin Neal’s Refractions EP, with a remix by UK producer Sergio Vilas.

EPM.194 comes from Didacta & Ritornelo. As the EPM mix series approaches 200 next year, this also marks our first ever b2b mix! Hailing from Bogotá, Co-lombia, Plasmodia co-founders Didacta and Ritornelo bring their passion for the electronic music with the richness of Latin American music as elements of tech-no, house and electronica merge and converge in their fresh mix. Featuring tracks from Doctor Jeep, Sister Zo, Rodman, Confidential Recipe & Dagga, Cler., Farsight, Erótica Castro and more this mix showcases fresh artists from across the world, tracing the dialogue between sounds from the global south and the global north.

Mutantech electronics and atmospheric narratives map the polarities of Didac-ta’s discographic universe. His identity reflects the learning processes embed-ded in music—shaped by interaction and lived experience. As a co-founder of the Plasmodia label, he stands for the convergence of músicas electrónicas in Bogotá and the emerging intersections within the Latin American ecosystem.

Plasmodia co-founder and inveterate DJ, Ritornelo creates dance territories and sonic hybrids by blending (poly)rhythms and low frequencies that converge from his passion for the British electronic music scene and the richness of Latin American music, with which he has grown up in his hometown, Bogotá.

Plasmodia round off 2025 with the long-awaited debut EP of co-founder, Didac-ta and the ‘D4NDELION’ EP. Out now!

EPM.195 comes from HannahLuyah. As a key ‘behind the scenes’ partner with both EPM and Cod3 QR plus AFEM (Association For Electronic Music) and IC-NAC (The International Consulting Network for Arts and Culture), she has earned her DJ stripes from the old school, playing and spinning at parties across the US and Europe. This mix was exclusively performed at the COD3 QR label party in August 2025 and in her set at Maastricht’s Muziekgieterij, old-school classics meet more contemporary house, with an infusion of jazz and hip hop influences referencing her New York heritage. Featuring Berlioz, Laurence Guy & J. Peacock, Todd Terje, Barry Can't Swim, DJ Rolando, Pachanga Boys and more her DJ set is a patchwork of genres, loosely connected by a back-bone of house. As Hannah says, “Let the music move you, soundtracking your holiday listening with its warmth and smooth (yet raw) textures."

HannahLuyah moves through the club like a storyteller, stitching bass-laden rhythms with glimmers of melody, glitch and groove. Her sets feel alive; shaped in real time, tuned to the pulse of the room, and held together by an instinctive sense of narrative. Growing up between New York’s eclectic sonic landscape and the warmth of her Brazilian heritage, she draws on a wide palette: house, techno, electro, breakbeat, hip hop, tropical influences and the alternative edg-es in between.

As a founder of event series Funk It!, she helps nurture a community-driven cor-ner of the underground, from beach parties to no-phone raves across Barcelo-na, as well as select events in London, Tokyo, and beyond. Her creative work extends far beyond the booth: she is a digital strategist and communicator for labels, collectives, festivals and cultural organisations, shaping identities and telling stories that blend strategic clarity with artistic curiosity.

Whether behind the decks or working behind the scenes, HannahLuyah oper-ates with the same intention: to connect. To lift a space. To find the threads that bind sound, culture and community, and weave them into something unforget-table.

Patrick’s journey in production started in 2015 when he met Lee Burridge at the Edge party in Antwerp. Not long after Lost Desert was born. From that time Lost Desert and Lee have been releasing on Get Weird, Tale & Tone, All Day I Dream and TrybesOFF.

With various releases such as ‘Lingala’ feat. Junior Akwety, ‘Float On’, ‘Hunter’ and ‘Loopyness’ propelling them forward it was the remix of ‘Car Park in the Sky’ and the ‘MELT’ album of 2019 that really put them on the map. By the end of the year Lost Desert had started his own label ‘Souksonic’ and a new journey had begun. Here’s a taste of the label, one year on.
