EPM Podcast 161 comes from Detroit house men, Airport Society. Airport Society are the Detroit duo of Brian Kage and Ryan Sadorus who founded the label Beretta Music together over 20 years ago who have recently teamed back up to bring us some great deep Detroit dancefloor music. Digging back in the crates for the EPM Podcast, the pair bring us a blend of Detroit house grooves and deep techno rhythms which bubble along to the sounds of Alton Miller, Dez Andrés, Paul Johnson, Josh Wink, Kevin Reynolds, Confidential Recipe and of course some of their own Airport Society landings. The two met way back in 2001 at an open turntable night in Detroit and have been working together ever since. Both have taken separate paths through the dance music world, bringing their own unique experiences to the table along the way which helps to feed into their eclectic Detroit house sound. Detroit born-and-raised Kage co-founded Beretta Music, through which he mentored and helped shape the careers of many internationally respected DJs and producers, including Seth Troxler, Ryan Crosson, and Luke Hess. Kage has also released on Omar S’s FXHE, Carl Craig’s Planet-E, Steve Bug’s PokerFlat, Rob Modell’s Echospace and many more. 

Ryan’s musical journey took a different path as he came up in the dance music scene during his days in the military in Japan, spending many nights in Tokyo listening to DJs like Ko Kimura, DJ Emma, Ken Ishii and Satoshi Tomiie. He would later move to Guam where he had a monthly residency at the island's large club, Globe where he helped to bring in world renowned talent. He also hosted 2 weekly on air radio shows where he would mix vinyl live on air to help educate the island audiences about dance music from all over the world. Moving to Detroit in 2001 and meeting up with Kage would set the course for the next 20 years as they built BerettaMusic and travelled the US as a DJ duo. The two continue to remain focused on building the label by sharing their own music as well as exposing new talent to the world.

#207 - A Tribute To DJ Hell - mixed by Veloziped

It's amazing that I found this recording. One of the best weekends of my life, playing in some dingy basement in NYC in the summer of 1998, where I was living to record the Chaser LP "Game On" and ended up carrying around my AKAI MPC3000 in it's flight case and bringing it out at any opportune moment for a party. Here's the set, a samplebox mash-up performed with only 32mb of internal memory for the whole set. How did I do it back then? I was young and hungry... ;)
