January 2021 Releases

Kevin Di Serna returns to the label with a stonking double-header. 

It’s been an eventful decade for Kevin, who broke onto the scene back in 2011. The Argentinian supremo has gone on to fly the flag for a country that seems having endless talent in the progressive scene with stand out releases on Innervisions, Balance Music, Sum Over Histories and many others. 

Opening with ‘Hyperblue’ an analogue journey of spiky synths and wild emotions, we are witness to a newer direction for the Di Serna sound. On the flip side, ‘Hyperdance’ continues the trend with a muscular prog groove and those otherworldly synths. 2021 is starting in fine form.

We last heard from Radeckt on the Spektrum 2 compilation, now he’s back with his debut solo EP. The Danish producer specialises in emotion- ally-driven club music, designed to spark inspiration and moments of contemplation. The dance floor is a safe space for free expression, human interaction and catharsis... Radeckt’s music is the perfect accompaniment to these channels of connection, while encouraging you to dance. On the Corroded Mind EP we get four original cuts, all of which encapsulate Radeckt’s penchant for music that moves the soul... 

It all begins with the title track. ‘Corroded Mind’ has a subdued intro, gently guiding us into a mesmerising sonic landscape. Soft pads massage the mind while siren-esque effects and metallic beats encourage the body to move to their hypnotic rhythm. Radeckt imbues the second half with drama and energy, while still keeping the mood sombre. 

‘Narrative Lie’ utilises layers of emotive synth and serene sounds, along with a meandering melody that lures you into its rhythmic flow. The glum low end counteracts the brighter elements of the track creating a neat juxtaposition. As the track progresses, the intensity of the main motif increases, sending temperatures rising. 

Next up is ‘Invisible Guard’ with its oscillating bass and simple, yet highly effective riff. Radeckt confidently applies the pressure, carefully in- creasing the tension until we reach a scintillating breakdown which takes us into the glorious second half. 

‘Silver Lining’ closes the EP, bringing a little bounce to the release. Radeckt gives us stuttered beats with great use of percussion to provide the energetic allure of this cut. As it builds, he incorporates an earworm melody along with neon laser synth lines and the whole thing feels like an eighties TV show theme with 21st Century sheen.

We kick off this year with a new EP from Milio, the solo project of Emiel van den Dungen, who is also one half of Tunnelvisions. Here focusing more on lush synth sounds, he offers a pair of deep and meditative tracks that journey through the cosmos and come with original artwork from Nous Couteaux.

Milio has a fine collection of hardware at home including a Moog Grandmother, Jupiter 8, OB-6, sh101, and more. He often likes to switch on his machines, step into a different world and jam when he is experiencing what he calls 'afterglow' - that feeling you get from a flashback to a club experience that leaves you happy, peaceful and inspired. The artist often sets up in the Willem Twee Studios in his hometown of Den Bosch, which is filled with tape machines that he likes to use to add warmth to his music. He's an artist who becomes at one with sound thanks to his hardware based, hands on approach to production, and that shows here.

Opener 'Moment of Truth' quickly establishes a nice rubbery rhythm that locks you in. Bubbling melodies drift up top like tasing clouds while a melodic bassline rides up and down the sale to add to the subtle and supple sense of movement. It makes for a beautiful and hypnotic listen that is always evolving. The excellent 'Never Say Never' is a little less restrained, with crisp and driving drums making you move while all manner of synths bubble and gurgle away. Miniature melodic explosions light up the skies and keep you on edge while hints of acid appear from below to keep things engaging from start to finish.

These are two carefully crafted, long form grooves that are as cerebral as they are physical.

Grasping 2020 as the year to remember, we are unfolding 2021 with the highly-anticipated release from our Argentian friends Bridado Crew & Ubbah, who already shared their musical ideas with the remarkable split releases on Eleatics in 2018. This time Brigado Crew duo, who has already released their music via Diynamic, Stil Vor Talent and Eklektisch, joins Ubbah for 'Too Late' EP. The main track 'Too Late' is a driving banger, which is extensively concentrating ones' attention with the effective and bursting bass-line and low-end work. Vocals from the Australian singer Winnick are becoming the epicentre of the dynamic and explosive track, which will lit the focus of those, who love the floor-working things. Random synth playouts altogether with the noticeably working bass sounds plus the standalone Winnick's vocals takeover certainly bring the feeling of the energy. French producer Damon Jee had a fruitful 2020 year with the releases on Correspondant, Critical Monday and Fine Human from a few to mention, which led him to be one of the most sold artists of Indie Dance genre on Beatport. Known for his dark-disco brand style, Damon is shaping his remix catching the laid-back groove around main sounds from the original track multiplied with the dark-disco sound inherent to the remixers' sound. 'Time Moves On' has a very symbolic name. Mellow and palatable vocals alongside the melodic leitmotiv of the track are certainly bringing the right mood. Doctor Dru is the artist known for us since the previous decade. His sound always evolved into the right path, which is dictated by Dru's passion and devout love of electronic music combined with his years of experience and unerring will to roll out the very best tunes full of substance and dancefloor appeal. Releasing with Diynamic, Mobilee, Flying Circus and his own Jeudi Records, Doctor Dru has always been a figure to watch. Dru's remix brings the very best of Indie sound: colourful melodies and pads, mysterious vocals and the immense groove - that's what we have in the end. Be sure to catch one of these tracks for your sets, while we take our time to serve more for you since we got no boundaries to set.

Following the label's account opener late 2020 and an EP release by Aldebaran, Applied Magic return with a 3-track outing by head honcho Aera, including a remix by Andalucian producer Jesse Trinidad. Prominently known for his releases on Innervisions, Permanent Vacation and Maeve, Aera comes through true to form with two tension building melodic house tracks.
