This week as we draw near to a close in the book of Hosea, we continue to witness the severity of God’s jealousy and the glory of unmerited grace for a wayward bride.

A breathtaking crescendo in the closing chapter of the book of Hosea. In past weeks we  have seen the severity of His wrath, the waywardness of our hearts, and here, at the close, we have a feast of His unmerited Grace spoken to Israel, and now to us through the blood of Christ. I have been loving how Hosea keeps our hearts proportionately seeing His divine perfections…

Hosea Part IV Ch. 14

This story in Ruth is the story of God working behind the scenes to be faithful to his people. He is working to shape events, even to arrange hardship and suffering, to cause good to happen so that He could be glorified as the all-causing, always-caring, and always-acting God that He is. Ruth’s narrative is a call to us to believe in the faithfulness, the presence, and the sovereignty of God in our lives.

Ruth Part I

As we continue in the book of Ruth we are confronted with another attribute of God: His Sovereignty. And with that Sovereignty comes the lamenting of His child, Naomi. What does God say about His sovereignty? How might we learn to lament well from Naomi?

Ruth Part II Ch. 1:12-22

Chapter 2 overflows with hope. We now meet Boaz, a God-saturated man and a legitimate redeemer for Ruth, a relative of Naomi’s dead husband (2:4, 10–13). And we continue to see Ruth’s character on display as a woman seeking refuge under the wings of God. And Its in this exchange between Ruth and Boaz that we see an amazing foreshadowing of God’s grace and we also have an opportunity for some sobering self reflection.

Hope Will Put You to Work. One of the most amazing, and more subtle messages in this section of Ruth is this: Hope will put you to work for others, or said another way: Hope frees you to love others.
