The music and culture in New Orleans is so exquisitely intertwined, that one cannot separate them apart....especially the brass band sound which is directly tied to cultural elements that date back well over 100 years.
 
This is a sampling of some of the sounds of the city that has truly moved my spirit since my first visit to New Orleans for the 2005 Jazz Fest. Here, we've reinterpreted and presented this music in a way that is new and fresh (thanks to a very technically challenging and amazing mix by my good friend and DJ, Frank Foreal), yet still pays proper respect to the culture and the folks that create this music.
 
This is truly a project of passion for me. As a matter of fact, I have so much love for New Orleans, it can be challenging to find a way to accurately translate and explain my feelings for this place...
 
Thus, I found the best way to express my affection is through music and this project, "Let's Go Get 'Em", is my personal love letter to the city of New Orleans.

May is the month of the Taurus and alot of my favorite musical legends & artists happened to be Tauruses; like James Brown, Stevie Wonder, & Ghostface Killah...and ironically, I'm a Taurus as well. My birthday falls on May 10th...and to continue the tradition of sharing some goodies in honor of my birthday as well as for my fellow Tauruses, I'm posting up this mix I did a few years back. I always wanted to do a mix on James Brown, but I realized that no one can do a James Brown mix better than my brother & fellow Beat Junkie, J.Rocc, so scratch that. I thought of doing one on Ghostface Killah, but I already did one a few years ago for the Ghostface Killah doll (which is now posted on my Soundcloud page). Strike number 2! Last but not least, there's the legendary Stevie Wonder. I know that Dj Spinna & Bobbito Garcia aka Cucumber Slice are the masters when it comes to Stevie's catalogue, but I actually made a mix that was originally a birthday gift for a good friend and is a big Stevie Wonder fan. Today is Mr. Stevie Wonder's birthday (May 13), so I thought to myself, why not share it again with the people and also celebrate Stevie's birthday....I just added an intro to the mix, and what you have now, is "Wonderlove". After spending hours in my own crates due to this forthcoming sale, I got inspired, hopped on the decks and rocked a live 90 minute mix of soul, funk, library, jazz, disco, hip-hop, etc. There's joints and genres from all around the world. I went hard (pause) on the doubles at some points, and there's some instrumental/acapella blends up there too… 

This was an spur of the moment practice session that was never to be given to the public, just to listen to later for ideas… no playlists, no preparation… A few mates enjoyed it whom I sent it to and prompted me to get it out there… Please excuse all the sloppy mixes, cuts, etc. I wanted to keep it raw like the mixes of the 90's… feedback is appreciated.

All done in one take, no preparation, just a erratic journey into the mind of a beat obsessed, scratchaholic OCD record junkie with a super short attention span. A lot of ground is covered on this mix… a gang of samples, both used and unused, library records, soul, funk, disco, hip-hop, australian records, japanese stuff, drum breaks, b-boy breaks, bongo breaks, turntablist works, electronic stuff, some mega RAER acapella blends with funk loops on the fly… 

I hope you all enjoy this series… I'm trying to take what I learned from that Soulman World Of Beats 2 mixtape back in the day that started me on this beat mission. It's the end of the Winter Bluntz Trilogy, Hoth style, takin' out AT-AT's. The victory lap on a Taun Taun, passin' you sucker ducks on land speeders… I just finished doing this mix, and I feel like I just entered the DMC for two hours straight, my brain is spent and I'm ready for that blunt.

Here's what I remember playing:

Drum breaks off live 1970's concert cassettes, kids TV show stuff, libraries, a lot of Australian, Japanese, African, Czech, Polish, Thai, Chinese, Russian, Greek, French, WORLD stuff, a touch of latin, some stems, edits, a few raer acapellas, a live crooklyn dodgers j-pop blend, jazz, hip-hop jawns, soundtracks, b-boy breaks, some 45s, private press stuff, some 90's wall of fame classics, soul, disco, reggae, console music, blaxploitation radio advertisements, drum breaks of all-sorts, and it goes on and on…
