For those who were asking what the mysterious mix that was put on after the DJs stopped playing outside at the Life and Death party in Art Basel, here it is. A mellow trip prepared by Greg from Thugfucker and presented here as a little thank you from all of us at Life and Death. 

It's been an amazing year and we're so very appreciative of all the support we've gotten as we've adventured forwards on this incredible musical trip together. We've got lots of exciting things planned for the year ahead (and beyond!) and we look forward to continuing together on this ride wherever it takes us.

Take Me To The River

Improvisation and Alfred Hitchcock form the core of the German artist's standout performance.

In preparation for his RA Session, David August sourced a voice sample of Alfred Hitchcock and composed some bass sounds. He then took the words of the revered film director as inspiration and built a completely improvised piece—one he's never performed before, and will never perform again. It was only a few years back that August was a DJ with a vague idea that he'd like to just play live. These days he's one of the biggest draws in dance music, finishing 2014 as the #4 live act on our annual list. August has got there through the strength of his live show and a compelling signature sound. His sets blend musicianship with technical nous in a way that makes his efforts obvious to the audience—far from "pressing play," in other words. As for his style, August made his name through a run of melodically rich club tracks for Diynamic Music and, most recently, Dixon and Âme's all-conquering Innervisions label. As on last year's "Epikur," he conjures emotions without resorting to clichés, delaying gratification until the moment is just right.

This set is mostly created with sounds collected from all over the world, in order to add an ethnic feeling to my livesets. 
I did not take time to focus on details or shape the sound too much, so most tracks are yet unfinished and it has a very spontaneous vibe to me. 
Thus I rather consider the set as a "preview" of what might come out soon. Still decided to upload it though, to challenge my terrible lack of musical output;)

Individually, they bring us to worlds of ethnic vocals, percussions and wonderfully tantalizing melodies  - each in their own special way. For the 23rd Urban Cosmonaut Radio podcast, they have combined their powers in a timeless live set that takes listeners on a gentle journey through mysterious lands of the oriental past. 

Inspired by their travels and diverse musical influences, this set is the symbiosis of computer scientist Nato and sound craftsman Sahalé. Their productions take their time in building up, releasing in vast spheres of melody, haunting voices and tribal rhythms. We close our eyes, letting them guide us to distant moons in different galaxies, knowing that with Nato & Sahalé, a kind of delicate beauty will engulf us if we trust them enough to follow them on a trip through cosmic portals of endless, profound music.
