This song is about my father, and how he and my mother would migrate south with the birds every winter in the last ten years of his life. Every year he would encourage me to come visit, but I was young and self centered and just didn’t have any interest in traveling to Arizona to hang out at a senior’s RV park. Of course now I wish I had, because it was an aspect of his life that he loved dearly and that I will never know. The song is a tribute and an apology and a promise that he will live on in my children.

When Its Time for the Birds to Fly

This was written very shortly after David Bowie died. I had been revisiting a lot of his music in a short amount of time and it all sort of saturated me and dripped out into this song.

I wrote and recorded this early in the pandemic. April 2020. It was one of those songs that just falls out of nowhere, fully formed. I picked up my guitar one night with no ideas and this song, melody and words, just appeared from the cosmos.

Kiss the Moon

This is an Ambition Recliner song from 2009. Eric on vocals and guitar, Neil Fasen on bass, Tom Kemmer on drums. It’s about the frustration of hopeless relationships, seasonal anxiety disorder and loathing February.

I’ve been writing and recording songs since 1992. You can probably hear my influences (Mojave 3, Beck, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, John Lennon, Woods, Mountain Goats) in there somewhere. I tend to focus on lyrics and melody more than production and performance. I’m not a great guitar player nor have I ever tried to be. I’m more interested in singing and writing.
