Swirl is for viola, cello, and piano.  I wrote it in 1994 for the Fidelio Trio.  This performance is by Ensemble Modern.

anamnesis

Flute is a fascinatingly seductive instrument- its very construction evokes carnality, as a long, metallic instrument controlled by the breath, the voice, the lips. The performer engages in an exchange of power with her listener for a brief three-and-a-half minutes.

Written for and performed by Ali Parramore in November 2014. Premiered and recorded at The Boston Conservatory's Seully Hall.

fens[fen] utilizes 'Garden Form', a means of formal construction frequently used by Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu, in which you walk around a space for a specific amount of time and sense the pacing of the multiple entities creating the space. I chose to walk through a community garden known as 'the Fens'. The area is notorious for being the location of several crime scenes and other questionable activity. During my walk through and observing the mixtures of nature and human construction, my imagination could not help but wonder what was happening in the areas of the garden that I was unable to see.
