This is from a set of songs I recorded with Adam Gran Du Ciel who went on to start a band called the war on drugs. We recorded a number of songs in the summer 2002 under the moniker The Modern Stretch. This song in particular is a catchy tune Adam wrote. He played drums, guitar and harmonica on it while I played bass and some guitars and produced it. This one was good fun!

Eric Penna is a musician, composer and producer living in Los Angeles, CA. After many years playing in bands and touring internationally, his musical focus shifted to film and television scoring contributing tracks to programming such as MTV’s Catfish, Intel’s Becoming with Johnny Knoxville, and Discovery ID.

Being a fan of all things retro, Penna has amassed a collection of vintage recording equipment allowing him to fuse the sounds from the past with modern production value and fidelity. One recent example is his version of Phil Phillips’ classic track, “Sea of Love” with vocals from actress Troian Bellasario (of Pretty Little Liars) featured in the film Surf Noir.

As a producer and recording engineer, Penna has helped shape albums for So Many Wizards, Samira’s Infinite Summer, Sadgirl, Carter Tanton, Adam Granduciel of War on Drugs and many more.

Still active as a performing musician, Penna fronts the instrumental surf-psych band Trabants whose recent album, Freakout was released through Lolipop Records.
After 10 years of recording and touring nationally and internationally with the alternative surf-punk band Ketman as well as his own Independent Music Award-nominated surf band Trabants, Penna relocated from Boston to Los Angeles to focus on music for film, television and commercial use. From his studio there, he has contributed incidental tracks for Intel, Discovery ID and MTV's show Catfish.

Penna's studio fuses modern production methods with vintage microphones and recording equipment to create the smoothest possible melding of well-loved records from the past with today's fidelity allowing him to authentically capture the retro aesthetic often sought for contemporary commercials, film, and television programming. 

As a musician and recording engineer, Penna is adept in a broad range of styles from alternative rock and punk to reggae, electronica and heavy metal. He has also produced records by the Basement Babies, So Many Wizards, Creaturos, The Dazies and others while consistently writing and performing nationally with his own instrumental surf-psych band Trabants.
