Designed for a steampunk-inspired aquarium exhibit, in the form of a stranded Victorian-era submarine.  Currently located at the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport, OR.

In the final gallery of the exhibit, "outside" the large fish tank bordering the Victorian Parlour, I created a montage of sounds one might hear underwater: humpback whale song, the sonar clicks of sperm whales, a steamship passing overhead, and seismic rumbling.
These sounds may also be monitored via an antique telephone receiver on the communications desk in the Parlour.

Passive Sonar

Designed for a steampunk-inspired aquarium exhibit, in the form of a stranded Victorian-era submarine.  Currently located at the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport, OR.

In the sub's Victorian Parlour, a directional speaker is used so that these sounds of garbled communications can only be heard when standing directly at the comm desk.

Communications

Designed for a steampunk-inspired aquarium exhibit, in the form of a stranded Victorian-era submarine.  Currently located at the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport, OR.

The ROV (Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle) in Gallery 3 of the exhibit emits an active sonar "ping".

Sonar Ping

Designed for a steampunk-inspired aquarium exhibit, in the form of a stranded Victorian-era submarine.  Currently located at the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport, OR.

In the observation dome of the sub's Workshop, (converted from the shuttlecraft-style "mini-sub"), one can hear the sounds of the sub's sole-survivor at work: welding, hammering, etc.

Workshop

Composed for a steampunk-inspired aquarium exhibit, in the form of a stranded Victorian-era submarine.  Currently located at the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport, OR.

In the context of the exhibit, this piece is playing on the captain's gramophone, located in his private parlour.  As the sole survivor of the submarine's wreck, he relies on his music for emotional comfort.  Since the parlour is the last space through which visitors pass, this piece also serves as "theme music" for the exhibit, much in the same way that the closing credit music in a film helps to cement a viewer's emotional experience as he/she leaves the theater.
