This song takes you on an emotional roller-coaster. Moments of darkness open up to confusion and potential, which ultimately transition into an intense and euphoric release. Through the sound design, arrangement, chord progression and vocals, we attempt to highlight a challenge we all face: What to do when there is no playbook to refer to, or when there is no one there to tell what to do next. As we grow older and try to comprehend the universe we live in, it becomes clear that overcoming doubt and making tough decisions in situations with no clear answer is a critical skill to have in a complex, interconnected, and often convoluted world.

We had the pleasure of working with a very talented female vocalist, Naomi Emanuel, on this song. We were looking for a powerful female vocalist with great range, creativity, and openness to collaboration. Naomi checked all of these boxes! She improvised some vocal ideas, such as the tribal chant in the buildup and awesome ad libs, that we ended up keeping it in the final version of the song because they were better than some of the ideas we originally outlined. She embodied the emotion, character, and raw talent so well that we have since collaborated with her on another song that will be coming out soon.

In addition to the substance we try to infuse into all of our music, this song hopefully ignites in you an urge to move your body and dance.

"What's To Lean On" is a song about struggling to find hope in a difficult time. With an ominous and bass-heavy intro supplemented by eerie synth stabs, we are invited to enter a dark place. The breakdown allows for some emotional relief as the darkness opens up to a happy and hopeful chord progression. The drop creates a sense that things will be okay despite not having an answer to the question. The song is a reflection of our life at this time and hope it connects with other people.
