Hen Wlad fy Nhadau meaning "Land Of My Fathers" is the Welsh national anthem that has been adopted in Brittany for the Breton hymn: Bro Gozh Ma Zadoù. It is also the hymn of Cornwall.
Here is my version played with a bombard tuned in B flat.

Extract from the track n°2 on the Scots Wha Hae album (2022), "White Cross" opens with some traditional Scottish marchs and then turns into an energetic "Scotland The Brave" that rocks a while to illustrate this white cross on the Scottish flag.
Extrait de la deuxième piste de l'album Scots Wha Hae, "White Cross" vous propose un voyage revigorant débutant par des marches traditionnelles écossaises, puis ouvrant sur une reprise très rock du standard "Scotland The Brave" pour illustrer la croix blanche du drapeau écossais.

Extract from the track n°3 on the Scots Wha Hae album (2022), "Amazing Grace" is of course a great bagpipe standard; besides piping, I've completed it by some arrangements and vocals to highlight this lovely tune.
Extrait de la troisième piste de l'album Scots Wha Hae, "Amazing Grace" est bien sûr un grand standard à la cornemuse; je l'ai complété par quelques arrangements instrumentaux et voix pour mettre en lumière cette magnifique chanson.

“The Lord (You Gotta Move)” is an adaptation of the blues song from Mississippi Fred McDowell, released on the Rolling Stones “Sticky Fingers” album.
As blues and Celtic instruments match very well together, I've adapted and arranged this mystical tune with an addition of bagpipe, bombard an Irish whistle.
This track is a second version with new arrangements and instrument (bombard) of the one already released on the album "Scots Wha Hae" (2022).

Comme le blues et les instruments celtiques se combinent très bien, j'ai adapté et arrangé cette mélodie mystique en ajoutant une cornemuse, une bombarde et une flûte irlandaise.

I've been hired for many weddings to play bagpipe: that gave me the inspiration for this tune.
By the way, this track is a new version of the previous one released on the album “Scots Wha Hae” (2022): same theme but new arrangements and atmosphere, additional instruments and new mix.
Listen to it loud if you want to be driven by the bagpipe power or softer to enjoy musical dynamic and spatialization.

Il s'agit d'une nouvelle version de celle sortie sur l'album "Scots Wha Hae" (2022) : même thème mais nouveaux arrangements, instruments supplémentaires et bien sûr nouveau mix !

The Wedding

A lot of tunes have been used with John Newton's lyrics (1779) until the American William Walker attached them to a tune named "New Britain"(1847). This last tune was inspired by two others from unknown origin: Gallaher and St. Mary published in 1829.
Amazing Grace was finally adapted for bagpipe by the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards Pipe Band in 1972.

It might be surprising as you're listening to the bagpipe: this tune is neither Scottish nor old…
Composed in 1982 by Michael Korb and Ulrich Roever, two German musicians, it has become very famous and is now part of the Scottish repertoire.
This “Highland Cathedral” is the true nickname of St. Columba Gaelic Church, located in Glasgow.
Here’s my own arranged version of this bagpipe standard.

Composé en 1982 par deux musiciens allemands, Michael Korb et Ulrich Roever, sa notoriété lui a valu d'intégrer le répertoire écossais où il a même postulé en tant que candidat à l'hymne national!

Highland Cathedral

This tune can be found under several titles like When The Pipers Play, O Waly Waly, The Water Is Wide, with some variations in the notes and rhythms.
The original air seems to be ancient, coming from Scotland under the name “O Waly, Waly” - first time published in 1724 - but it also could come from English folk or Irish repertoire.

When The Piper Play

Also known as “Scots Wha Hae”.
The lyrics as "Robert Bruce's March To Bannockburn" were written by Robert Burns (1759-1796).
The text fits to an old Scottish tune, Hey Tuttie Tatie, that might have been sung by the Scottish army at the battle of Bannockburn (1314).
It also has been considered as the Scottish anthem during a long time and is still used by the Scottish National Party.
The first verse who gave one of the name to this song, Scots wha hae wi' Wallace bled - or  Scots who have with Wallace bled - is about William Wallace, who's story has been told by the famous Braveheart movie(Mel Gibson-1995).

Bruce's Address

“Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht” has been penned by Franz Xaver Gruber in 1818, based upon a poem written by Joseph Mohr two years earlier.
It became a worldwide tune very soon.
Among its numerous renditions, I still keep a special place in my heart for the version by Elvis Presley, forever The King, that inspired me to record this cover (December 2023 Remix).

Silent Night

The Massacre of Glencoe (1692) is one of the most memorable event in Scottish history, particularly for clan MacDonald.
Here’s my own version that takes its part in this remembrance: based upon both a bagpipe tune and a song by Jim McLean (“The Massacre of Glencoe” released in 1963) and on some new arrangements.

Voici ma propre version qui participe à ce souvenir : basée à la fois sur un air de cornemuse et une chanson de Jim McLean (“The Massacre of Glencoe” sortie en 1963) et sur de nouveaux arrangements.

Marig Ar Polanton

A very old tune, probably from Irish origin but also sung and played in Scotland. It has become a standard for many singers so I've chosen a different way by recording an instrumental version with my Scottish bagpipe.

She Moved Through The Fair

Here's an old Scottish tune that used to be a sailors' song or barcarolle. It's now played as a lullaby or as a Slow March for the pipers. Due to some of the lyrics that are attached to it, the song can illustrate the escape of Bonnie Prince Charlie, the last of the Stewart's pretender, toward the isle of Skye, after the battle of Culloden (1746). As you may know, it is also the main theme of the TV Series “Outlander”.

Voici une ancienne mélodie écossaise qui était autrefois une chanson de marins ou une barcarolle. Elle est maintenant jouée comme une berceuse ou comme une Slow March pour les joueurs de cornemuse. En raison de certaines des paroles qui y sont attachées, la chanson peut illustrer la fuite de Bonnie Prince Charlie, le dernier des prétendants Stuart, vers l'île de Skye, après la bataille de Culloden (1746). Comme vous le savez peut-être, c'est aussi le thème principal de la série télévisée "Outlander".

The Skye Boat Song

The melody is most of the time known as “She Moved Through The Fair”. This track is an arranged version of it, inspired by the usual lyrics about a marriage that cannot happen here on Earth because of the passing of the beloved one. The deceased love appears one night as a ghost in the room of her soul mate… that inspired me for the atmosphere of this track.

La mélodie de ce morceau est la plupart du temps connue sous le nom de "She Moved Through The Fair”. Je propose ici une version arrangée, inspirée par les paroles habituelles évoquant un mariage qui ne peut pas se produire ici sur Terre à cause du décès de l'être cher. Celle-ci apparaît une nuit comme un fantôme dans la chambre de son âme sœur... ce qui m'a inspiré pour l'atmosphère de ce single.

Our Wedding Day

“Openings” is a mix of two tunes that begins the Scots Wha Hae show:
1. The Atholl Highlanders is a Scottish infantry regiment based in Blair Atholl and the private army of the Duke of Atholl. The tune is attributed to William Ross (1823-1891). 
2. Itchy Fingers : hornpipe penned by Pipe Major Robert Pinkman.
I've arranged these tunes by creating an electro-oriented atmosphere.

The Days Of Free

Tune penned by Roy Williamson (The Corries) in 1968. In March 1990, during the last match of the Five Nations Championship between England and Scotland, it has been played for the first time in Murrayfield, just before Scotland's victory.
In 1993, the Scottish Rugby Union decided that Flower Of Scotland will be played before every match to replace… God Save The Queen! 
The song celebrates the victory of the Scottish patriots against the English invasion during the first independence war (1296-1328). Led by Robert The Bruce, the Scottish army sent home the troops of the Proud King Edward II during the battle of Bannockburn (1314). The two wars of the 14th Century will lead to almost four centuries of Scottish independence.
The famous band "The Corries" penned this wonderful tune that became then the National Scottish anthem.

The Land Of My Youth

Written by Pipe Major John McLellan DCM (1875-1949) in memory of the battle of Magersfontein (1899): wounded at the ankle, he managed to rally the troops with the sound of his bagpipe.
The title has obviously nothing to do with the fight: Lochanside is a charming and bucolic scenery located in Dunoon where actually McLellan was born, far away from the heat of the battle.
So all my arrangement displays the opposition between the battlefield and the singing of the birds, war and peace…
