I compared a stereo pair of MKH 8020s mounted in a DIY foam SASS, with a pair of Audio Technica AT 4022s mounted in a Crown SASS.  These are consecutive recordings (rather than simultaneous), it was early dawn on Xmas morning, rigs were set up on my front verandah.  By ear I cannot pick the difference between the two rigs, but a sound spectrograph shows that the 8020s are a little noisier.  Both rigs alternately ran to a Sound Devices 702 recorder, I added 3 db to the 4022s in post, to match the levels.

Jet FA18 Hornet Pass By

I had nothing better to do today so I put together this compilation of a B-1B Lancer. This is a recording I made back in 1994. I was living in Seattle when they had a air show at King County Airport very close to downtown. Gone are the days of fly-bys over the city. This plane was seriously fast and loud. I was very close on the West side of the runway when this jet took off and ripped by a few times not very far over the runway. After it passed it would go straight up like a rocket. (It sounded like a rocket at times) -Enjoy! -Frank

The B-1B entered service in 1986 with the USAF Strategic Air Command as a nuclear bomber.

In the 1990s, the B-1B was converted to conventional bombing use. It first served in combat during Operation Desert Fox in 1998 and again during the NATO action in Kosovo the following year. The B-1B has supported U.S. and NATO military forces in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Lancer is the supersonic component of the USAF's long-range bomber force, along with the subsonic B-52 and Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit. The bomber is commonly called the "Bone" (originally from "B-One"). With the retirement of the General Dynamics/Grumman EF-111A Raven in 1998 and the Grumman F-14 Tomcat in 2006, the B-1B is the U.S. military's only active variable-sweep wing aircraft. The B-1B is expected to continue to serve into the 2030s, when it is to be supplemented by the Next-Generation Bomber. (Wiki)

I recently bumped into a friend of mine from the area and the first thing he said to me was "I was just thinking about you the other day, I have these frogs in my pond that make one hell of a racket at night. You should come record them" By the way, this happens to me quite a bit when I meet friends at social events or just hang out. They always let me know if they have heard something interesting that I might want to record, lucky me!
