The Ådalen riots in May of 1931, where workers at a sawmill were shot and killed by Swedish military troops, took place just a few miles south of where Erik Artur has spent most of his life. Eighty years later his music tells stories about traumas of the same kind: old and nearly forgotten. This particular story is about a shared sense of melancholy and hope evoked by growing up in the northern hinterlands of Sweden, where, in the words of poet Pelle Molin, ”the whitewater purrs like a giant cat alongside your ear”.
