Het circus speelt vandaag
Eerst komt het varken, dan komt de zebra,
de grote beer maakt een sprong achterover.
Twee leeuwen die springen door een hoepel, een hoepel van vuur.
Wat zijn ze sterk en gevaarlijk – een echt wild dier.

Daar in de hoogte een acrobaat.
Salto mortale, de afzet,
hij draait en komt veilig terug.

Het doek gaat weer open.
Daar zijn de aapjes, zij zijn nooit rustig.
Heen en weer springend, dat doen ze zo lustig.
Kijk hij slingert aan een touwtje en duikelt, duikelt maar door.
Wat een verrassing, de clown is er ook. Twee zelfs!

Daar in de hoogte de acrobaat.
Salto mortale, de afzet,
het touw zwaait, maar nu grijpt hij mis….

Wij moeten verder gaan,
kunnen niet hier langer blijven staan.

Dit is ons ijzig, droevige lot.
Soms is het vrolijk, maar vaak is het rot.
