This is a song that was made popular by Pete Seeger and Harry Belafonte, among others in the 50s and 60s, yet you can trace it all the way back to 1863, during the American Civil War, when it was first heard sung by slaves on St. Helena Island off the coast of South Carolina who had just been freed by the Union Navy.  The song was noted down by Charles Pickard Ware as he heard the  former slaves singing it while rowing across Station Creek. In the version we have recorded we have included most of the original lyrics. It has been a very fun and creative project. Thanks to Steve and Michal for their collaboration, Steve on bass, and Michal's help with ideas in the production stage. And of course to Amos for his amazing voice and energy.

Recorded on May 21st, 2017 for a video shoot in the Sala Ego Live in Alcala de Henares, Spain for a special video program titled On The Road by La Furgo Radio, which has a program on the local university radio station. Now available on the EP "Live Session".
