Dubai’s iconic audio tonic brand is on the cusp of celebrating 10 years of establishment, and next up on the label their 35th release encompasses the true sound of now.

The combined release output of all the artists involved with AT035 is substantial, with the original mixed crafted by the collaboration of Egyptian born now based in Barcelona Raxon, and the Belgian disco synth duo of Spirit Catcher. Their releases on Culprit, Noir, Cecile, My Favorite Robot, Gruuv, Pets Recordings and 2020 Vision to name a large handful make clear their intentions. Traffiq is a masterful dose of sub bottom end and crafted synth work, squeaks, beeps, squelches and signature sounds of both Raxon & Spirit Catcher. Throw in the addictive percussive framework and you’ve got a track ready for true dance floor deviance.

Next up the remix, and with the likes of Noir Music, Suara, Knee Deep In Sound, Great Stuff and Tretmuehle using his production prowess to represent their labels, Olivier Giacomotto is riding a rolling electronic wave. His rework incorporates THE famous Giacomotto bass line we have all grown to love, and most importantly recognise as his true signature. Taking the track down the darker realms OG turns out a remix worthy of note, and one we hope (and know) will be throwing hands into the air across the globe this summer and for years to come!

June 2016 saw Portuguese producer, Pete K, excel with his debut original EP for Proton Music. Now revisiting the title track, "Utopia" sees a trio of new, highly prized remixes.

Greek artist, Dousk, ensconced in Patras, west of Athens, on the Mediterranean coast, has excelled in a glittering musical career. A much sought after artist in both DJ and production arenas, Dousk continues to excite with his unique brand of music. An eponymously titled debut for John Digweed's Bedrock, ensured a name in lights from career outset as Klik, Plusquam and Movement have all played their part in showcasing the Dousk name. Furthermore, some seventy production credits have found their way to the Greek imprint, Vapour, in glittering fashion. A regular on Proton Music since 2013's remix of Tvardovsky, the "Bisocial" EP stood as a landmark moment with the twin-track EP going onto receive a host of remix treatments. Reworking Pete K, the Dousk remix of "Utopia" is full of the trademark rhythm and bass groove that defines his sound. A huge beat and twinkling percussive line lay the foundations for a garrulous vocal sample to wend its way across the track's entirety as occasional melodic riffs and spot effect add depth and intrigue in a fascinating rework.

Australian duo, GMJ and Matter, have both been at the forefront of their country's underground music scene. Both accomplished DJs that have seen performances across the globe, their individual production portfolios are exemplary. Balkan Connection, Clinique and Particles have been staples of GMJ and Matter's solo work with the latter accounting for a number of impressive original GMJ EPs. Similarly, Visceral, has been a constant companion during Matter's production career thus far. Coming together on Proton Music for their debut original release, the "Superordinate" EP laid the foundations for a successful partnership that has seen remixes from icons, Oliver Lieb and Rich Curtis. Now developing their first Proton remix, the GMJ and Matter remix takes "Utopia" on a fast-paced percussive journey with urgency coming from ticking hi-hats and metronomic beat. Clever use of original components sees the remix retain the essence of Pete K's work as a raft of luscious, analogue melodies are part of rich additional production material that takes the track in a subtle new direction with scintillating results.

Dubai based Subandrio is an artist who has continued to make impressive headway in the underground dance environment in a relatively short space of time. Emboldened by multi, "Middle East DJ of the Year" successes in 2009 and 2013, a debut in the shape of the three-track, "Silcone Oasis" EP for Lowbit in 2104, began the Subandrio voyage as a clutch of further material has found its way onto Juicebox Music, Balkan Connection and Flow Vinyl in the past two years. Furthermore, an appearance on Hernan Cattaneo's "Sudbeats 3" compilation cemented a reputation that has continued to grow apace. A pair of remixes coupled with the "Black Box Between", part of the "Fall Particles 2016" compilation, is now followed by a debut remix for the flagship Proton Music. Thus, a chunky and hypnotic percussive groove sits tightly melded to a subterranean bass line, creating a delicious groove and swimming across the left-right spectrum. Sympathetic use of Pete K's original components keeps the essence of "Utopia" intact but a raft of additional production, not least in an intelligent new lead riff, ensures Subandrio continues to earn his seat at the underground's top table.

A musical triptych from Dousk, GMJ and Matter and Subandrio has demonstrated that paradise is still found within Pete K's "Utopia".

“Filthy Flavor” kicks off with a collaboration between Sacha Robotti & Desert Hearts’ Mikey Lion, and continues with appearances from some familiar Dirtybird faces like Kill Frenzy, German Brigante and a special VIP remix of Justin Martin & Will Clarke’s “Back to the Jungle”, this time with more Jungle.

Ardalan’s ‘Mr. Good’ LP offers an emotional look into the heart and mind of a young artist. It’s a coming of age tale that tracks Ardalan as he figures out his sound and creative identity. 

The story unfolds across eleven tracks documenting Ardalan’s search for analog perfection.  The intricate sound design comes from a collection of hardware Ardalan has built over the years. There are no generic basslines or sample packs involved.  Ardalan reaches all the way back to early 2000s while updating the sound with modern mixdowns and clever production tricks. The album is weird yet danceable, classic yet futuristic.  

After watching Ardalan develop his sound and musical career over the years, we're proud to see him turn in this forward-thinking record that pushes his sound to the future.

Bloodlines

Fresh from producing a blistering remix of ‘Camargue’ earlier this year, Maceo Plex returns with his first Drumcode EP in five years.

Maceo Plex hasn't dropped an original on Drumcode since 2014 when the hugely popular 'Conjure Infinity' EP was released. Despite this, he's been a significant feature at DC events over the last year. Sharing a tight relationship with Adam Beyer, the pair have laid down memorable B2B sets at Warehouse Project, Ultra Music Festival, and the Resistance opening party in Ibiza this summer, thus cementing their tight musical bond.

Produced in the early part of 2019, 'Destination Mars' marks his terrific return to Beyer's iconic label. The track is trademark Maceo, a master class in tension and release, characterized by a slick low-end bass hum that gathers steam as crunchy drum lines and breathy vocal accents combine effectively with the main vocal lead, a contribution from Josh Wink, no less. No surprise, it went down a storm when debuted at Time Warp's mammoth 25th-anniversary party in April and has been highlighting the Ellum boss' sets ever since. The ever-reliable Raxon is charged with remix duties, stripping back the track's engine to focus on a central melody, chugging bassline, and hypnotizing vocal effects. Shall Ocin's re-rub is made for misty-eyed mornings as celestial pads result in a transcendental finale to bring it home.
