This track started out after a melody appeared in my head. I first sang it as a voice memo then played the notes into Ableton which became the piano part. I'd been wanting to do some string arrangements for a while and quickly found the chord progression for the strings. The basses came from hardware and I then put the track together. At this point I felt it needed something extra in the breakdown and thought a vocal might work. I couldn't find much inspiration in sample packs or YouTube then remembered a post from a fantastic artist and coach that I follow, which I thought would sit nicely with the track. So with the spoken vocal from the marvellous Suzy Bastone in place, the track was done.

The title was something that came before the vocal. It had dual meaning as initially was about the dream and feeling of floating or flying, and being Over Clouds in a very literal sense. It was also during a particularly grey time of the year weather-wise and thinking "I am so over these clouds". I thought about changing it after adding the vocal but then realised it actually fits perfectly with Suzy's words and how they relate to balance and growth. As we need the darkness to see the light, we need the clouds to get over them, and see the beauty above.

"Progression" signifies a rewarding sense of clarity and acceptance after many stages of difficulties and failures. It's the first song that fully utilizes my own vocals, so it's a personal victory as well.
