Mark Reeve makes his welcome return to the Drumcode fold with a powerful three-tracker ‘Far Away’.

In recent years Mark Reeve has become a pivotal member of the Drumcode crew. His 2015 EP ‘Run Back’ was a standout, before he backed it up strongly with ‘Nine of You’, his collaboration with Adam Beyer that featured on A-Sides Vol.5, ensuring his place in the hearts of DC fans. As further evidence of his importance to the collective, Beyer has selected him to suit up for the inaugural Drumcode Festival happening this August in association with Awakenings. 

Harking back to formative times in the ‘90s when he’d frequent Sven Väth’s legendary Omen in Frankfurt, the title track to Reeve’s ‘Far Away’ is a timeless beauty, driven by a celestial melody line and emotive bass notes that lobs it into the kind of laser-kissed territory that would make even the most jaded of raves throw their arms skyward. ‘Fragile’ follows, a classy bass-driven cut that makes its mark with deep subterranean stabs and punchy kicks. Rounding out the EP is ‘Redemption’ a tougher, heads-down techno workout imbued with plenty of energy thanks to a crafty bass melody that runs throughout.

Rich Wakley drops the superb Underdog EP on SOUP NYC: two sterling house cuts with sublime remixes from Skapes, Joeski and Zenbi. 

Whether it’s topping the Beatport charts, releasing on labels like Avotre, Suara, Lost and Roush or blasting out sets all over the world, Rich Wakely’s mix of solid beats and infectious grooves is receiving plaudits the world over.

As a producer and label manager, he has crafted many chart-topping hits, received continual BBC Radio 1 airplay and helping to launch a multitude of careers, while recent releases on OFF, Definition, Mile End and Resonance – bolstered by remixes from the likes of Darius Syrossian and Jamie Trench – have established Rich Wakley as a force to be reckoned with. 

With latest release is Underdog EP: another winning two-tracker dropping on SOUP NYC with a heavyweight remix package. 

As with many Rich Wakley productions, the title track is built around a solid, infectious groove and frenetic hats, eventually giving way to a sizzling synth line in the break. Wake and Bake rolls along on another chunky groove, with hard-hitting drums and whispered vocals lending a sinister edge to proceedings. 

Remixes come from the UK’s Skapes, NYC legend Joeski and SOUP resident Zenbi. Skapes adds a huge, amorphous bassline to Underdog, while Joeski enhances the tension already present in Wake & Bake, creating a deep, chugging, menacing house cut.  Completing the package, Zenbi adds a twisted groove to Wake and Bake with clattering percussion and huge drops creating a main room masterpiece.
