Real Deal Records co-founder Jake Hodgkinson is an old hand when it comes to rocking parties. From Half Baked, The Lion and Lamb, Art of Dark, and North South parties Jake has delivered a master class in his unique brand of acidic wonky tech house but it doesn’t stop there. Bass heavy, glitched out beats snake in between more upfront house bombs to create a swaggering sound profile that is made for one reason and one reason only – to blow up a dancefloor. 

It goes without saying that his Real Deal Records imprint has featured several times and the posthumous release of Andy Panayi’s was a snapshot of their stance on the greats. Unearthing gems and breaking new bangers is what Jake does and his mix for our podcast series is testament to this. We feel extremely honoured to be able to present the next addition to our mix series, our dear friend Bart live at Distrikt.

In his time on this planet, Bart only ever played out a handful of times. He wasn’t particularly infatuated with the the glitz associated with the DJ lifestyle, above all his focus lay with digging for incredible music. By the time his talents began to receive the attention they deserved, he already possessed a bag of tunes so refined it would’ve been easy to mistake him for someone who’d been at it for twice as many years as he.

The recording is the majority of his 2 1/2 hour set, enduring until till the club’s close. It is a prime example of what DJing can be when it’s at its best, a journey with moments of elation, introspection, complexity and even humour too. We saw Bart’s tunes bring a feeling of unity to the Distrikt dancefloor seldom seen in any club which is a memory we will always cherish.
