In "The Walkabout" I imagined what a soundscape for a traditional Australian Aboriginal's long walking journey through the wilderness, in both a physical sense and a spiritual one, might sound like. I created a nocturnal ambience for the opening with the sounds of crickets and my didgeridoo and from there the piece awakens to a musically rich journey, exploring textures that are more like landscapes. Soon little melodic phrases guide the listener to an eventual unfolding into a beautiful moment of arrival in the joining of acoustic guitar, indigenous flute, and didgeridoo.

Award-winning artist Michelle Qureshi is a composer, multi‐instrumentalist, and classically-trained guitarist who brings a contemporary yet timeless aesthetic to her music. Step into a moonlit river of sound. Session XIX — Lanterns Over the Water drifts through the heart of Japan’s shrine and lantern traditions, weaving non‐lexical shrine chorus hums, shakuhachi sighs, koto glissandi, and taiko heartbeat pulses into a deep, meditative lounge journey.
Inspired by Kyoto’s Gion nights, coastal lantern festivals, and the still elegance of Shinto shrine waters, this session captures a ritual calm where fireflies, incense smoke, and floating lights move as one.

▸ REGION: Japan — Shinto shrine ambience, lantern festivals, Gion street nights
▸ VOCALS: nonverbal shrine chants, breath vowels (“aaa–ooo–eee”), whispered blessings (“mizu,” “tsuki,” “kokoro”)
▸ INSTRUMENTS: shakuhachi, koto, taiko, suzu bells, temple woodblock, night cicadas, water ripple field recordings
▸ MOOD: moonlit stillness • ritual elegance • drifting light on water
