This is a very dark hybrid piece featuring double stops on the cello. Several synths, as well as sample strings, horns, and piano, accompany the dark cello throughout. The cellist was recorded in Chicago, and from there I mixed the acoustic recording with the prerecords to create a foreboding atmosphere. The inspiration for this piece was two books by Margaret Atwood: "The Handmaid's Tale" and "Alias Grace".

By The Hand Of Grace

The piece was written for three of my family members who died within a year of each other. The sections of the piece represent pain/grief, fond memories, and acceptance. It was written for string quartet with clarinet and French horn, and it was recorded at the Chicago Recording Company in downtown Chicago. I then mixed the recording with samples in order to create a more orchestral feel, rather than a chamber ensemble.
