Sancta Purga

i made some progress! there's a lot more to this game than i thought there was.
i messed up the first time around, i guess... i got a choice between waking up and staying asleep, and i chose to wake up. that's when it gave me the text about "not failing again"... i wasn't really paying attention. when i tried again and chose to stay asleep, we woke up in the dark world! i got a proper screenshot of it this time, i got a nice little work around. makes the game freeze up like crazy though

anyway, not a lot happened here. its basically just a walking simulator, occasional text from offscreen like before. but the music's kinda ... calm? especially compared to the original cliffs. this and the dialog made me think it was ... more of an errand than an adventure, like this is normal. i'm not sure. noelle ends up waking back up though! so i think it's just, like, a weird dream segment thing. the dialog was completely nonsensical, i still can't make heads or tails of it at all! didn't bother writing anything down from it, since it wasn't very helpful anyway. regrettably i did get stuck on the only puzzle in the entire area.

there's this room that loops forever- a plus-shaped room, with four directions. i didn't realize at the time, but you're supposed to listen to the music. it gets quiter when you're going the wrong way, and louder when you're going the right way. when i got to the end, she just... gets woken up by carol?

anyway, im still making my way through it all, but a bunch of people got super interested in the last post, so i wanted to keep people updated. sorry again about the link :[ i know its super cliche but it's just ... gone? i've looked everywhere, but i have no idea where it went. and i can't even remember who it said made the game, so i can't look that up and find it, either. if you guys know any way i could check maybe through the files, that'd be cool, just... let me know...

This one was a struggle to compose. Most the stuff I came up with sounded too much like fohad or not enough like fohad. I landed on a theming I was happy with after trial and error. I'm happy with how it turned out.

This one's really dissonant. The amount of original motifs in Scarlet Forest are more than the ones in Welcome to the City so I ended up using the Weird Route variant as well. I don't hate it. It just feels more confusing and mysterious.

I tried to go for a misguided morally twisted self righteous hero vibe here. I feel like I made it a little too heroic at the end, but I love the composition too much to hold that against it.

Syskonbråk-sviten – Helhetsbeskrivning

Syskonbråk-sviten är ett konceptuellt musikprojekt i fyra delar, skapat av Nordic Soul Syndicate. Varje EP speglar en egen musikalisk värld men binds samman av temat: syskonlika konflikter mellan genrer, känslor och uttryck. Från lo-fi-indie till psykedelisk jazzrock, från progfusionens kaos till soulens och gospelns försoning. Tillsammans bildar de en musikalisk resa – från första repan till sista ackordet – där varje skiva är ett kapitel i samma berättelse.

3. Sorsele – Fractures & Funk Fusion

Fractures & Funk Fusion är progrockens och jazzfusionens kärleksbarn. Ovanliga taktarter, frijazziga blåsarrangemang och en bas som ibland låter som en cirkusorkester, ibland som en rockopera. Här spricker musiken upp i galna ögonblick, men hittar alltid tillbaka till groovet.

3. Sorsele – Fractures & Funk Fusion

Nu börjar allt spricka upp, både musikaliskt och känslomässigt.

X-Ray Bebop röntgar själen med sina spruckna blåsarrangemang och taktarter som ingen kan räkna. Det är jazz, men inte trygg jazz – det är jazz som går i bitar framför dig.

Cast Party bjuder in till en absurd fest där progrockens pompösa stämningar krockar med funkens oförutsägbara groove.

Och i Broken Bones Ragtime rasar allt ihop som en cirkus som brinner – ragtimepiano, kaotiska trummor, basgångar som stapplar fram som på kryckor. Men det är vackert, på sitt eget skeva sätt.

Kapitel 3: Sorsele – Fractures & Funk Fusion

I Sorsele bröt allt samman.
X-Ray Bebop röntgade själen och avslöjade sprickorna som alltid funnits där. Saxofoner som tjöt, basgångar som vägrade hålla sig på mattan, trummor som bytte takt innan man hann räkna till tre.
Cast Party var som en galen fest i ett övergivet hus. Någon hade hittat en gammal trumpet, någon annan ett syntljud som ingen visste hur man stängde av. Allt gick sönder och ihop samtidigt.
Och i Broken Bones Ragtime låg hela festen i spillror. Pianot hackade, blåsarna pep, men mitt i kaoset fanns ett slags märklig skönhet. Som när man inser att även ett syskonbråk kan vara kärlek, på sitt sätt.
