Today we listen a selection by Oscar Goldman aka Defunkt Dialekt. An artist who is characterised by a variety of styles and an unconventional approach to making music.

Which artists has influenced you the most?

- Hard question to answer, most possibly it's Steve Albini.

What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future?

- I rarely plan with other labels, most probably I will make some music to put on soundcloud for free or cut the vinyl myself for a short run release to sell via Instagram or email.

Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now?

- I don't listen to electronic music often so I don't have a good answer, my everyday listening is more punk/noise/garage rock, I like Michael Valentine West tho and Valance Drakes always has a nice vibe, recently I like Drasko V for the sound design and TCA records (Yu-Miyashita).

What inspires you now to create music?

- Inspiration comes from experimentation, anything unusual, some sounds I have not heard before, I have a few styles of music I make, with electro I have to follow certain rules and I try to break them, if it still sounds good when broken then that inspires me to make the rest of the song.

What set-up do you use when creating music?

- VCV rack and guitar effects, some modular and Reaktor from NI, I like Bitwig for experiments, I use portable recorder and record stuff when I go to the city or forest, for sure I use when I travel some distance.

The Adapt is a UK based Polish DJ and Producer, with a 90's Hip-Hop background and a solid foundation in Breakbeat and Electro. Some of his influences include artists such as Dave Clarke, DJ Hell and Kraftwerk. For several years he has been into electronic music and sound experimentation bringing to his audience dark and powerful Techno and Electro belters, incorporating sounds from the Future.
The Adapt plays a mix of wild twisted basslines, brain melting melodies and distorted broken beats. He has  been working with well respected labels in the electro community such as Abseits Recordings, Bass Agenda Recordings, Urban Connections, and many more

State Of The Ether | Episode 17

Electro producer Ara-u began his music career in the late 90s, he played an integral part in developing the scene there via community events, and his early sets showcased a fusion of vinyl and synths, using a hybrid setup of a Roland JX-305, turntables and FX to explore acid and breaks, with his versatility allowing him to effortlessly transition between open-air events and established clubs.

It is analogue electro, though, that remains at the core of Ara-u’s distinctive sound. Based in the UK for over two decades now, his unwavering passion for the genre is a hallmark of his productions and performances. From his role in the early days of the Beetroot label, which championed eclectic sounds and released music by respected UK artists such as Jerome Hill and House of Fix, to his reggae and dub-flavoured productions under his former alias The Dice, his musical heritage is richly nuanced and built upon years of experience.

In recent years, he has delivered a string of impressive electro releases, including the collaborative ‘Asking For Trouble’ EP with Radioactive Man, as well as tracks on labels including Slam’s Avoidant imprint, Censor, Co-Accused and his own label No Static/Automatic. Support for his productions has come from esteemed artists including Helena Hauff, DJ Bone, Laurent Garnier, Dave Clark, Mad Miran, Jerome Hill, Alienata, and Solid Blake. Ara-u’s robust sound has also been highlighted by leading electronic music publications including DJ Mag, Mixmag, and Resident Advisor. 

His newly designed live set utilises a set-up of Electrons Octatrack and Syntakt, Tempest, 303 and FX, and is dense and raw, traversing machine funk, filthy beats, driving, dirty basslines and dark pads. Upcoming projects include a collaboration with Ben Pest, and a number of EPs scheduled for release on his own label. With foundations rooted in a three-decade-long career and a deep affinity for powerful sound systems, Ara-u continues to make an indelible mark in the world of electro music.

Which artist has influenced you the most?

- Mainly the Detroit Electro and techno scene, Drexciya, Underground Resistance.  

What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future?

- We have really nice stuff coming out on No static Automatic including an ep's by Ed dmx, SeCond Storey, Manao, myself  and many more. I also have a collaboration coming out with Ben Pest next year.  

Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now?

- I'm going to say Radioactiveman and Ben Pest but i have so many.

What inspires you now to create music?

- New sounds from new equipment , new techniques .
