This is the first installment of new series for @DarkScienceElectro where I challenge my DJ friends all over the world to 'Define:Electro' music from their personal perspective. We all have our own definitions of what Electro means to us as individuals and this series hopes to share those perspectives with the listeners of Dark Science Electro - Over the last ten years, I have hosted tons of guest mixes featuring DJs from every corner of the globe who I’ve asked to give me their interpretation of ‘@DarkScienceElectro’ for their guest mix. Generally, in the past, when I am soliciting a guest DJ, I insist that they mix their “weirdest, darkest, coldest Electro” and that has served the show well over the years in pushing my personal narrative of the genre. I do, however, recognize that my definition of Electro music isn’t the ONLY definition of Electro music so, that having been said, and without further ado, this is the definition of Electro heard through the ears of @BarbiCastelvi

For this first installment, we look to Canada for a look into the mind of @BarbiCastelvi who has been Djing for 20 years and shared stages (as both DJ and in bands) with the likes of Chromeo, Newcleus, Arabian Prince, Dj Godfather, N-ter, Egyptian Lover, Detroit in Effect, Dj Slugo, Dj Deeon, Arthur Baker, Peaches, Qbert, The Hacker and many more. She is also is part of the musical duo, @Siviyex,  with electro producer @Cryogenetic. Additionally she is one of the members of a newly rejuvenated Heinrich Mueller collaboration project Daughter Produkt.

For this new Premiere, we have a track by the Zagreb-based music producer & DJ Ivna Ji from the upcoming EP "ZwaarteKracht 3" [ZK003] on the Belgian Electro Label : ZwaarteKracht.

ZwaarteKracht was founded towards the end of 2018 and are based in Belgium, their previous two releases have been hosting exquisite sounds from a broad range of artists such as Innershades, Cleromancer, Datawave, Francois Dillinger, Deemphasis, DerDieDas and label boss Arsonist Recorder.

The track we chose to premiere is the Z1 and entitled ‘Diatom’. It will be available from February 15, 2020 on Limited Edition Vinyl + Digital at most online retailers.

ZwaarteKracht are very proud to present the 3rd edition in the series, inviting some very unique and forward thinking artists.

The very prolific Zagreb-based producer Ivna Ji kicks off side “Z” mercilessly grooving a bassline down your spine like an itchy virus. Followed up close by Errorbeauty, who has been pushing boundaries through her own label Arkada Records (which she runs along with XOR12). Her track here displays some geniously organic machinerythms into an eerie dystopian escape.
On side “K”, Arsonist Recorder hosts this record with an invasion of microbug machinery in a heavily rocking track that continues to sonically outline the reactive views of this label, only to prepare the listener for UK-based producer and dj Kim Cosmik’s industrialised funk-anthem which concludes this release, masterfully drilling the beat into the floor with a rumbling subbass-message to society.
