Matt X feat BIS - Rise (1st Version BIS Master)

The Universe is made of 5% ordinary matter, 25% dark matter and 70% dark energy.

We wanted to make these proportions audible, to give the listener an idea of how immense the dark part of the Cosmos is compared to what we can directly see.

And so we wrote "Cosmic Mystery", a song based on the proportions of the Universe's ingredients and inspired by ESA‘s upcoming Euclid mission. The 3-minute duration of the song is divided into three parts, each of them being 5%, 25% and 70% of the total song length, respectively. Whenever you hear a clock ticking, it means a new part of the song is starting!

Visible Matter (0:00 - 0:15 s): we used a warm, paddy soundscape and harmonic ambiguity to capture the astonishing beauty of the Universe's visible part. The song's main character is mesmerized by such a "symphony of light", but realizes that there is something more behind it.

Dark Matter (00:15 - 01:00 s): as we enter the Dark Universe, the beat becomes more groovy, and harmonically we enter a more funky/rocky mood. This part is supported by penetrating bass, representing the gravitational influence of Dark Matter. Here the main character is looking for answers - what are the properties of Dark Matter? Will we understand more about the nature of gravity? He then invites us to "dance" with him, that is, to delve together into the mysteries of the Dark Universe to find answers.

Dark Energy (01:00 - 03:00 s): we recreated the feeling of cosmic accelerated expansion by using a Shepard tone, i.e. the sound illusion of a continuously ascending noise audible in the background. This part of the song is even more dancy while keeping its uplifting funky harmonies, to give the idea of the continuous motion to which the Universe is subject (i.e., the "Hubble flow" mentioned in the chorus). Fun fact: we used a sample of a real Roll Call from the European Space Agency as a wish for a successful flight for the Euclid satellite, which will help unravel this "Cosmic Mystery" by studying the Dark Universe.

Finally, the song's artwork shows a vinyl whose interior is divided into three black circles according to the proportions 5-25-70. The innermost circle depicts the projected view of Euclid's primary and secondary mirrors. The primary mirror is reflecting the image of numerous galaxies scattered in space.

Cosmic Mystery

The Copernicus Sentinel-4 mission, part of the European Union’s Earth Observation Programme, will monitor air quality with its ultraviolet, visible, near-infrared light spectrometer. The mission will be able to provide hourly observations, in a breakthrough for air quality monitoring from space.

The Bussard ramjet is a theoretical method of spacecraft propulsion proposed in 1960 by the physicist Robert W. Bussard.

Bussard proposed a ramjet variant of a fusion rocket capable of reasonable interstellar travel, using enormous electromagnetic fields (ranging from kilometers to many thousands of kilometers in diameter) as a ram scoop to collect and compress hydrogen from the interstellar medium. 

High speeds force the reactive mass into a progressively constricted magnetic field, compressing it until thermonuclear fusion occurs. 

The magnetic field then directs the energy as rocket exhaust opposite to the intended direction of travel, thereby accelerating the vessel.

The song is soundtrack for future interstellar mission to another planets out of our Solar System.
