One of the most beloved and critically-acclaimed band of the late 90s, Cibo Matto pioneered post-genre freakout long before the digital shuffle.   Spiking their artful pop songs with rap, funk, jazz, and influenced by Brazilian, African, and Latin sounds, they placed in Spin's Top Albums of the 90s and Time magazine's Best Hip Hop Albums of All Time. During a brief two-record career they graced major magazine covers and were immortalized on an early episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Post breakup the band received a "Best Of" overview from Rhino Records in 2007, and their track "Sugar Water" appeared in the Nip/Tuck series finale in 2010. All along Miho Hatori & Yuka Honda have continued to record projects both pop and avant garde, have guested on records by the Beastie Boys, Gorillaz, and in 2012 performed (as Cibo Matto) at a KCRW concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Returning to the studio as Cibo Matto, they have made their most impressive and cinematic album, packed with kaleidoscopic grooves, demented horns, crazy synthesizers and funky-but-chic blasts of pure danceability. 


Hotel Valentine is a metaphor, a question, an answer, an idea, a feeling; A strange and vivid scene. Cibo Matto's first record in 15 years is a cinematic bricolage, a rich concept album, a love story amid the ghosts traversing the hallways of a hotel. Underneath the lush sonic palate, Yuka Honda and Miho Hatori have created the soundtrack to an invisible film as they’ve continued to refine their sound and remain fully committed to an ethic of fun, living the continuum that surrealism is timeless. Having spent some time apart, says Honda, we became more aware of our magical chemistry, our magnetic bond. We both realized we had unfinished business. With one of the most colorful careers of the 90s, Cibo Matto's live shows and albums were marked by wild experimentation, incorporating hip-hop, Brazilian music, African and Latin jazz, and pop into their unclassifiable mix- setting a blueprint for outrageous pop into the new millennium.

ORIGINAL Citation (Oct 2014): Rosetta’s Plasma Consortium (RPC) has uncovered a mysterious ‘song’ that Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko is singing into space. The comet seems to be emitting a ‘song’ in the form of oscillations in the magnetic field in the comet’s environment. It is being sung at 40-50 millihertz, far below human hearing, which typically picks up sound between 20 Hz and 20 kHz. To make the music audible to the human ear, the frequencies have been increased in this recording.
