Born Joy Dead is the solo project of Brisbane musician Ben Dalton, best known as bassist for Hungry Kids of Hungary. 

Life after two successful albums, world touring, numerous sold out shows and notable appearances at festivals such as Splendour in the Grass, Groovin’ the Moo, Pink Pop (Netherlands) and Falls Festival was a sobering experience. However, the unanticipated solitude provided the perfect opportunity for Ben to hone his craft as an independent musician. 

Drawing inspiration from the likes of XTC and Elvis Costello, Born Joy Dead points to a world where warm and strangely synthetic soundscapes are met with stimulating language, vibrancy and colour. The first release ‘Upside Down, Inside Out’ combines the eccentricities of 1970’s new wave with the boldness of modern experimental pop, and was recorded with local producer Sean Cook (Big Scary, Velociraptor).
