For the 38th episode of our podcast series, we are delighted to welcome an artist who is for us one of the most important pioneers on the scene. Founder of the Female: Pressure platform and working to introduce the values of brotherhood into the clubber community since 1998, we are honored to present here an extraordinary Hypnotic Techno set from the very talented DJ and producer Electric Indigo.

Hosting her set now is particularly meaningful to us, as she was playing our last 'real event' before the covid restrictions began.
It's now been 15 months since our 'Eclectique x Art Bei Ton' event at :// About Blank (13.02.20) and we haven't been able to work fully since. A lot of nostalgia, but still a lot of hope for a better future - we look forward to seeing you on the dance floor very soon!

Electric Indigo works as a musician, composer and DJ. Her name stands for the intelligent interpretation of techno and electronic music.
She started her DJ career in 1989 in Vienna and worked at the legendary Hard Wax record store in Berlin from 1993 to 1996. 

In 1998, she created female:pressure, the international database for female, non-binary and transgender artists in the fields of electronic music and digital arts which got an Honorary Mention at Prix Ars Electronica 2009. 2012 she received the 'oustanding artist award' in the category Computer Music from the Austrian Ministry for Arts and Culture.

She makes music for concert spaces, clubs and occasionally for stage plays and short films. In her compositions and live performances, she emphasizes the spatial-temporal placement of subtly elaborated sounds and structures, often generated from speech recordings. Electric Indigo shuttles between Vienna and Berlin.

Cobahn (KR)

Cobahn is a Korean DJ, and started her musical journey as part of Seoul’s deep spiritual techno scene. Recently, she moved to Amsterdam to keep exploring and broader her horizon.
Her music is influenced by Oriental philosophies and awe-inspiring mother nature, and combines deep and experimental styles, which she blends into an authentic soundscape.
She used to play the club vurt in Seoul, and she was a one of the member of odd, mysterious experimental techno party Ya-cha.
She is focusing on all kind of deep music filled with organic, hypnotic and avant-garde touches.

Wind hollows between the boulders, randomly scattered on the wet and salty sand. It blows onshore, raising the ocean’s feathers, pushing unforgivingly hand in hand with a creeping tide. Swirling brush strokes captivates the viewer's eye, drawing step by step to swim deeper, losing a coast line's sight. 
Vivid blue, ghostly white and all-absorbing black – another painting is complete revealing nature’s Linear System.

Coming from the north of Spain, @linearsystem develops a unique signature mixing strong basslines, Sci-fi ambiences, cold atmospheres and shamanic rhythms in his tracks.
With the music released on such labels as Edit Select, Dynamic Reflection or Planet Rhythm, Linear System heads on into Black Wave podcast no. 42 with specially recorded live performance.

When I came to London last year to join fabric and head the A&R for the artist led label Houndstooth I got dragged down to Hackney Wick for what was going to be a life changing techno event of the rawest level. This happening is what has inspired my series of Warehouse Sessions, where I have reached out to my favourite techno artists and asked them to get inspired by that unique thump thump betwixt concrete sounds that industrialised techno spaces always provoke and provide a suitably banging mix for my Electronic Explorations podcast series.
This week I've kicked off another round of mixes lead by Our Circula Sound man Sigha, London resident Ø [Phase], Semantica Records boss and Spanish producer Svreca, Italian producer and co-owner of Repitch Records Shapednoise (One half of Violetshaped) and finally a US producer who has released on Sandwell District & Stroboscopic Artefacts, Rrose.
December 2012 brought mixes by USA producer Skirt, UK producer Truss aka MPIA3, Stormfield & myself, Irish and Greek producers AnD and French producer Kangding Ray (his being voted EE mix from all shows in 2012)

When Joachim Spieth asked me to write his biography, I knew I would have to be a bit creative in order to write something different. You see when writing a biography, there are things you have to speak about, even though you know it has been said many times, and you fear it will end up looking like any other biography, with the usual and righteous amount of name droppings.

For instance, I couldn’t avoid saying that Joachim Spieth has released a numerous amount of records, on labels as renowned and diverse as Michael Mayer’s Kompakt, Traum Schallplatten, or Paso Music to name only few. And that some of those releases, such as « Under Pressure » have been, and are still hits. How could I pass on the fact that some of his compositions have been charted by Martin Gore and Sven Väth, played by Juan Atkins and Derrick May, licensed by The Orb or remixed by Rolando? And I couldn’t possibly forget the label Affin he has successfully been running for seven years, with 150 releases added to its catalogue.

I also had to mention that he has been involved in the electronic music scene for the past fifteen years; that he used to play in a band as a teenager. I had to name the clubs in which he has played during the last decade. Tresor Berlin, Tunnel, Culture Box or Hive Zurich being his regular meeting points with the crowd.

But I did not really want to speak about all of the above. Because what matters at the end is who he is, what he wants to express by producing music and what he has been giving to the scene. Being a shy character, he is not the type of person searching for the spotlight but someone that is evolving on the scene by pure passion, and wants to communicate this passion to the others. He created his label Affin to be as independent as possible and focus on discovering new talents.

But most importantly, what Joachim Spieth does not put into words, is translated into sounds. Deep, solemn and at times enraged, his productions represents Techno in its purest expression. They are made to occupy our dying cathedrals of concrete, to crush the reality of our everyday life under an assumed individuality. The elaborated basses and the echoing melodies grab our minds to throw them in a far away world, leaving the silence of a doomed society behind.

For us, Nørbak is one of 'those' hidden gems... You know, when you’ve dedicated endless hours to treasure hunting and suddenly find your attention fully consumed as a track catches your ear, igniting something in your soul and proceeding to give you that ‘kid in a sweet shop’ kinda feeling! Yup, you’re with us now. Nørbak’s four-track EP, Conduction, released on Circular Limited in April 2017 and one of five EPs under his belt (also reaching Spieth’s Affin & Illegal Alien Records) was our first chance encounter with this intriguing Portuguese artist. With production fuelling the fire in his belly for the large majority of his life and his outputs doing what we like best – seductively minimal, deep, emotion and thought provoking - we couldn’t help but humour our intrigue and see if we could find out how his creative yearning is translated across to a mix. Fortunately for us, he was more than happy to oblige.

Reclaim Your City 252 | Cassegrain (Berlin)

In techno circles, Cassegrain shouldn't need too much of an introduction. With a label résumé that includes, among others, Prologue, Infrastructure New York, Killekill, and Ostgut Ton — as well as highly regarded performances at Berghain, Village Underground, and
Output — they've more than stamped their name on the scene. Alex Tsiridis and Hüseyin Evirgen — the two artists behind Cassegrain — formed the project after a chance meeting at the Redbull Music Academy in Barcelona. In the years following, they collaborated remotely via email, sending stems back and forth before making a move to Berlin where they currently share a studio.

Back in May 2016, the duo folded a former secret alias and launched it as a label under the same name, Arcing Seas. The first release was ARCS-01, an intense and varied three-tracker of warped beauty. A second release will be out in a few months, followed by a third shortly
after—a testament to the duo's relentless work ethic.

Although Tsiridis and Evirgen obviously have an affinity for collaboration—the pair also work alongside Tin Man, a relationship that has delivered a handful of EPs and standout live shows—they are also now stepping out as solo artists. Evirgen's first record as Magna Pia was released via Counterchange, while Tsiridis released as Rhyw on Rotterdam's Tar Hallow and Shifted’s Avian with more music forthcoming this year.

Nørbak is Artur, born is the late nineties, in the North of Portugal. His devotion into making music begins early in his life, and since then, keeps working in his studio, day after day, discovering and developing his own sound, diving into ambient and experimental techno. In 2016 releases in labels such as ‘Illegal Alien Records’ and ‘Circular Limited’, reaching the point in 2017 where he sees his  recognition going further with a split vinyl EP on ‘Affin’ and later on contributed to the label’s 10th year anniversary release with the track “Gilgamesh”, in 2018 in he releases the EP “Marah” on Dynamic Reflection, “Nura” on Faut Section and contributed to the yearly Unknown Landscapes compilation on PoleGroup. Feeling supported by some of the most respected artists in the scene, his future can only be brighter than what it is right now, with so many boundaries to achieve, discover, learn and cross.

BIO:
Giorgio Gigli born in Rome 1976, music enthusiast and vinyl collector started work as a deejay at the beginning of the 90s by proposing sounds ranging between deep, house and techno. Over the years his sounds gradually become more inspired by electronic artists such as Kraftwerk, Pansonic, Boards of Canada and Autechre. His search into sonority draws him more and more towards geometric, special and minimal rhythms which find him playing in various European clubs and festivals among which "The Nitza Club" Barcelona, "Pulp" Paris, "Goa" Rome, "Hard Club" Porto, "Overground Festival" Geneva, "Palm-Aria Festival" La Spezia, “Magazzini Generali” Milan.
He has produced music since 1999 and is presently a member of the Elettronica Romana, electronic music label born in the historical vinyl corner Remix in Rome. The first release "Chiki Disco", produced with Donato Dozzy, was received with great approval from the electronic music world. Still with Elettronica Romana he produces "Geometrik Forms" a mix of minimal sonorities with hints of trance music; a mix which has made this record unique in the sector. Shortly after he comes out with a record "Rarefied Atmosphere" on the Jeremy P. Caulfield Dumb Unit label which better represents his style being defined as a melancholic and obsessive monster. Cold and deep sounds alternate, creating a minimal and abstract atmosphere; the record goes beyond rhythmic physicality concepts and strong emotional sound. In 2007 "Planet Earth" comes out on Mental Groove, one of the most dynamic Swiss labels in electronic music. A record which confirms his static and hypnotic intent.Also to be remembered the "1' Studio Dinamico Su Melodia Analogica" ''metà tà physikà" remix for Phutura on the Registrazioni Italiane label where music is transposed into architecture, Avant-garde trance and minimalism merge for 12 minutes, creating a metallic atmosphere surrounded by unruly, insistent, rhythmical compositions. An unconventional approach to interpretation of music. Passion, nostalgia and melancholy merge together creating scenarios at times complex and disordered, difficult to interpret but always intriguing and unique. Giorgio Gigli’s style can be defined as subtle hypnotic minimalism.
